Ipod Battery Replacement
DH (then BF) bought me a 40 gig IPod a little over 5 years ago. It is very special to me as he had it engraved. The only thing wrong with it is that it will not hold a charge at all! Does anyone know anything about legitimately getting the battery changed? Has anyone done it?
He offered to replace it but I love that this was the first "real" present he bought me

I believe you can order a new one in the Ipod store
you might even be able to get it online

There are plenty of people on craigslist that will do this. Some may even do the work in front of you.

I don't know why but I would rather go through Apple then a "stranger". I guess because of the warranty?

i have the old IPOD mini.. and i had to send it back and got a refurbished one.. i dont think they just sell the batteries .. it has to be sent back... thats the way they were made unfortunately

They may not send you the same exact one back (you would have to check).
It's more expensive to go through apple.
The stranger would probably do the work right in front of you and possibly sell you a higher capacity battery since it may be an aftermarket one.
I have never done this myself, I don't own an ipod. But a friend of mine did this and had good results.
I also see the ads all the time on craigslist. If you are looking for a battery replacement, maybe check out some apple ipod forums for recommendations.

I would go through apple to get the replacement. my DH replaced his battery with one that i think he bought online somewhere and his ipod never worked after that. he had to get a new ipod.
eta: i think he might have sent his ipod somewhere and they sent it back to him, but it didn't work
