Is a high risk doctor the same as a maternal fetal specialist?

If not, what makes them different?

Tricky question here MFM deal with high risk pregnancies. There are OBs that deals with high risk pregnancies but are not MFMs.

The office I used during for my DS had a MFM on staff (Dr Victor Klein) but I saw all of the OBs in the practice even though I was high risk.

Is a high risk doctor the same as a maternal fetal specialist?

I could be wrong but I believe the MFM's deal with high risk pregnancies that are high risk due to the mothers health. I see MFM's because I have high bp so they monitor my health even more so than the baby's.

My twin pregnancy was high risk due to having mono/di twins. They shared a placenta and one baby was smaller due to cord placement and having a two vessel cord rather than 3. I was monitored VERY closely by a MFM doctor from 20 weeks on.

I see both.

My OBs are high risk OBs.

My MFM Dr monitors me as well, but will not deliver me. He only does prenatal monitoring, amnio, etc. My high risk OB got him involved when I developed an issue w pregnancy.
