I'm a Dance teacher and 18 weeks preggo. I'm thinking the odds of another Dance Teacher or such on here will be fairly slim but maybe some of you knew someone in the similar field. I asked my doc after we found out we were pregnant what I should stay away from doing? He said continue your regular activity, you're not sick you're pregnant...now I understand that but I'm not sure he understands exactly what my job entails. I almost think I'm taking it too easy because I'm nervous about what kind of strain I could do on the baby. I'm usually the teacher that demonstrates absolutely everything from flips, floor work, jumps, etc. etc. The flips obviously I know are a bad idea but I'm not sure where to draw the line? Any response would be greatly appreciated.

MeChat Icon I'm a dance teacher!

I taught until I was 34 weeks with my ds. I would have continued until the end but my ob made me stop working since I had started having contractions at 32.5 weeks.

My ob told me at my 1st appt. that I could keep up all my regular activities. I was clear about my job and how physically demanding it could be but he assured me that as long as it wasn't anything new I would be fine. The only things I eliminated for myself were crunches and floorwork that required me to be on my stomach. At 28-30 weeks I started to find that my balance was off a bit making it difficult to correctly demonstrate turns and jumps. In tap classes I supported my stomach by holding it up with my hands.

Congrats and Good Luck!!!

I'm so happy to see your post! I can feel alot more assured demonstrating some of those crazy jumps and turns! I stopped the crunches a while ago...and officially said goodbye to my abs lol Chat Icon
