Is anyone a Radiology or Ultrasound Tech?
I am looking into going back to school but the programs I am seeing say " The Associate in Science in Applied Science and Technology (ASAST) degree in Medical Imaging is designed for registered or licensed Radiographers." Then you go on to get your B.S.
Well how does one become a registered or licensed Radiographer BEFORE they even have their Associate's? Can anyone help me with this? Where do you begin?

My husband did something similar. I am not sure which school he went to but it was a vocational school..not a college.

Re: Is anyone a Radiology or Ultrasound Tech?
You dont need a college degree to become an xray or sono tech. I know here on LI there are a few hospitals that have radiology programs that last 2 yrs and you just get a certificate and get licensed by NY State of you can go to college and get a 2 yr degree or 4 yr degree. There isnt a difference in pay scale in xray if you go to college or xray school so I would go the cheaper route. I went to 4 yrs and got my BS in Radiology.
GL FM me if you have any other questions.

Re: Is anyone a Radiology or Ultrasound Tech?
I'm an RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist
aka - I do vascular ultrasound (arteries/veins)
I have 4 years of undergraduate credits from St Johns/LIU Brooklyn and then did a 1 year certificate program at LIU for Vascular Technology. With that said, you can register for *most* ultrasound programs with only minimal required college credits. At least that's how my program worked. Programs range from certificate to BS. Most are associates or certificate though. In my case, after the 1 year I graduated with the certificate and then was eligible to sit for the ARDMS or CCI registry tests (1 in physics, 1 in vascular technology).
I was also an adjunct factuly member this year at LIU, teaching 2 courses for the Vasc Tech dept. If you have any questions about LIU Brooklyn let me know! They have Surgical Tech and Echo as well (although, Echo is new so they're working on accredidation)

I am currently in a Radiology program but I'm inVA. Check out this website. AART
You want to get into a program that is accredited by the AART.
If you have any questions send me an FM. I'll try to answer them for you.

not sure if Surg Tech has ONLY evening hours. i just know they offer it
it's on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn, near metrotech/Polytechnic University (short walk from the F, N, R, Q lines. Also not far from Pacific Ave LIRR stop. Distance depends on how you travel I always took the subway in. Honeslty think mass transit is the easiest way to go
ETS its right across the street from Junior's, the place famour for cheese cake. maybe you'll know where that is and that can help place location for you!
