Is anyone elses 1 yr old still not on a lot of table food...
The ped said not too worry but of course I am.
He hates most table food. He loves baby food though. All of them. But that is really it. At dinner he will have sometimes what we are like chicken, or a hamburger but not a lot. Maybe because he only has 2 bottom teeth? But he gags soo much on most table food.
Is anyone else in the same boat?

Re: Is anyone elses 1 yr old still not on a lot of table food...
Jake didn't eat alot of table food at 1 either. He didn't cut any teeth until late and our pediatrician also did not seem concerned or in any rush for us to start table food partially for that reason (even though I know they can mash food with their gums).
Well, let me tell you that I completely regret not introducing more table food earlier. When they are 1, they are so much more flexible still.
I think it's fine if he doesn't want to eat it. Obviously you aren't going to force it on him - but I highly recommend that everyday you put some type of table food on his plate/high chair tray. Let him have a little taste of this or that. Just introducing it and giving him the option to try it will help make him more willing to try later on. I have a picky eater now (although that could also just be because he is two) and I now know that with my next, I'll introduce table foods much sooner.

Re: Is anyone elses 1 yr old still not on a lot of table food...
UGH, I am having the same problem...Alyssa will be 1 year old in less than 2 weeks....she barely eats any tale food. She was late getting teeth too - - she only just got the two bottoms 2 weeks ago and they arent even fully erupted yet. I dont know if that has anything to do with it though because I know of some babies who eat plenty of table food and have NO teeth. I just cant figure it out...and it stresses me every day.
Aly will eat anything with a dry, hard, crunchy consistancy - cheerios, gerber puffs or pinwheels, bagel chips, crackers, pretzels, the gerber dried fruits...heck, she even ate a fortune cookie the other night!!
But thats IT. She wont eat anything soft or mushy..it appears that she doesnt like the way it feels in her mouth? She makes faces and just spits it right out. We have tried cut up fruit, chicken, eggs, lunch meats, cheeses, pancakes, ...she just puts it in her mouth and then spits it out within seconds. :( It is so frustrating.
I am worrying because we started transitioning her to milk...she son about 1/2 bottle of formula and 1/2 milk at this point...I am worried that baby foods alone arent enough nutrition??
We dont have our one year well visit till a few days after he rbday but I will talk to the dr then....
I just dont understand how she could eat hard things with no problems and nithing else. youd think it would be th eother way around.
sorry so long....

My son is 15 months and has a lot of teeth, and he still doesn't like to eat a ton of table food, but here are some things we've had luck with: cheese sandwiches, pancakes, waffles, meatballs, watermelon, grapes (cut up, of course), baby yogurt (this is good because it has a lot of protein).

It is so frustrating
Andrew is the same way. He will eat cheerios, puffs, etc but anything with a mushy chunkier texture he freaks out. He gags and then makes all these weird faces.
That is why we are not switching to milk yet. The ped and I agreed that Next Step for now until he eats more food is a good decision.
Maybe when he gets more teeth he will eat more table food

Im not so sure that how many teeth they have is the problem...I think they just need to be given new textures and hopefully, soon they will get used to them and be able to eat them.
what is Next Step??
did the ped. say if them eating baby food is supplying them with enough nutrients without any table foods??

They didn't eat much table food at this point either. One of my boy would gag on anything so he took a bit longer. By the time they were 14 months old I think they were on alot more.

Next Step is a toddler formula. It has more nutrients in it then milk. I will only keep him on it until he eats more table food.

Re: Is anyone elses 1 yr old still not on a lot of table food...
DD will be 1 on the 10th and she isn't eating much table food either. I offer it 3 times a day but follow up with baby food which she loves. She doesn't gag, she just spits it out. At least she is "trying" it . She doesn't use the cup well either although I started offering it to her at 6 months. I think I have every sippy cup on the market. She actually seems to do the best on the ones that are like the old Tupperware ones. I am also transitioning her to Next Step formula and holding off weaning her completely from bottles.

Re: Is anyone elses 1 yr old still not on a lot of table food...
well, my ped called back and said that the next step formula is not necessary - the jarred baby foods along with yogurt and such will be fine until she gets the hang of eating table foods....which she said she isnt worried, most kids will catch on by about 15 mths.....

Re: Is anyone elses 1 yr old still not on a lot of table food...
Same here...He does taste some table though. I make sure he has some table food. Usually at dinner. I'll give him his food first and then let him taste some of ours. He has had pasta with sauce and lentil soup, broccoli soup (not creamy) these are soups my mom makes and he eats those. I sometimes give him half a banana mushed up. He loves that...
I have not let him try any meats because I am sooooooooooo afraid of him gagging. He's gagged on stuff that's not meat so I am staying away from the meats right now I don't think he'll chew it.
I give him a little bit here and there because he does gag sometimes. So I try not to overdo it. When we are eating dinner he'll crawl over, or if he's in his walker he'll run over to the table. He does want to try it. If we see he likes it we continue giving it to him if not then we just leave him alone. As long as he's had his food.

We are in the same boat, my ped is not worried. I look at it this way, I have never seen an 10 year old eating baby food, drinking a bottle, or wearing a diaper. So, she will "graduate" to table food, sippy cups, potty training when she is good and ready and not before.
My family was so up my butt about giving her table food as most of you know. Then at Mother's Day brunch my MIL gave her eggs while I was in the bathroom. Grace threw it up and gagged. DH told her not to, oh well, she learned her lesson.
