Is anyone else's house completely run on electric?
I'm wondering if I am the only one who won't have a hot shower to enjoy if we lose power for a few days.
I'm seriously the biggest baby on the planet when I don't have power. I'll have to do something about that if/when I manage to have kids one day

Re: Is anyone else's house completely run on electric?
Not totally, but when we were without power from Irene, I took DS and headed to my ILs.
Fortunately, it came back pretty quickly.
Being without power for a prolonged period is my biggest fear outside of wind damage and the annoyance of cleaning ground water from my basement.

We just bought a generator, if not for anything else then to protect the $$$ in food I have in my outside chest freezer. Plus a 2 month old and 2.5 year old with no power is no fun
Ace tools in Wantagh had 10 left to preorder as of last night at 7.

Do you mind telling how much the one they had there cost? My DH is thinking of trying to get one today, you can PM me if you prefer.

We have oil heat but I think electric is somehow involved, if that makes sense. During the Halloween storm we had no heat. We also have an electric hot water heater.

I'm in Levittown, and have NOTHING when my power is out!! It sucks!! Luckily my dad is close by and while he might not have electric he has hot water because he has gas, so I can always go take a shower there!!

Re: Is anyone else's house completely run on electric?
here and we lost power with Irene for 5 days-i am a huge baby too and hated EVERY SINGLE moment of it! i have 2 little kids too so that made it more stressful and less fun to pretend we are amish. This time i bought every flashlight, light battery etc b/c last time we waited too long and missed out on that!

We have gas heat and hot water, however, it still uses electric to ignite, so if the power goes out, it doesn't work. I think that's how most gas systems are.

Re: Is anyone else's house completely run on electric?
Well, we have a gas stove and oil heat/hot water, if the electric is off, our heat and hot water are out anyway. I am trying not to panic but I can't handle being cold. We were without electric for almost a week after Irene too (though we were going to NC on vacation about 2 days after so we didn't have to deal with it for long...just dealt with the spoiled food when we returned. )

Yep, we have the same issue.
It took full week to get power back after Irene, but luckily my parents never lost power and we stayed there. Seems like the vast bulk of the island is going to lose power this time so we are screwed!

I'm all electric and yes, I'm terrified of losing power. We didn't lose any for Irene so praying this one will be the same.

We have oil for hot water and heat, but the burner needs electricity run anyhow. I'm sure most people are in the same boat...

Re: Is anyone else's house completely run on electric?
We are all electric over here but I'm not too worried. If needed, we could head to a friends for showers. Heat will not be an issue, not suppose to be cold & we can cook via bbq.

We are! I already warned my parents that we may move in with them if the power is out for more than 24 hrs. My dad was like "just cook on the BBQ"

Is anyone else's house completely run on electric?
We moved to CT last year and we are on everything electric. We have well water too so if we lose power we wont even have water to shower. Needless to say if that happens we are out of here and going upstate to my in-laws or if any of my family on LI has power we will go there. Im not all about no power with a 7 week old.

Re: Is anyone else's house completely run on electric?
last year we lost power for 6 days. Pregnant and a 3 year old at home while my husband had to work a ton. We also had no water. We had a generator to run the fridge.
THis year, we paid to get town water so we will have water.
We also stole my inlaws generator (they're in FL) that can run 4 things at once.
