Is Butternut Squash Supposed to Be...

Slimy and a little mushy? I bought some chopped up from Trader Joe's and wanted to roast it to hide in DS's mac & cheese. Some of it is hard and dry & other pieces are slimy. Doesn't look "rotten" though.

The expiration date is 2.20. Would you use it or toss it?

I usually peel and cut my own and it's never soft or slimy. I think as a general rule, don't eat any fruit or veggies that are mushy and slimy. I'd toss!

Same thing happened to me when I got the TJ butternut squash. It grossed me out and I ended up tossing it.

Slimy = toss. If its not out of your way to go to TJs today or tomorrow, you can bring it back. They'll refund you; they're good like that. We bought cheese and it got MAD FUNKY before the exp date (wasn't opened) and they gave us our money back.

I never buy pre-cut butternut squash. I always cut my own and the pieces are hard and firm. THat being said, some of the pieces near where I have scooped the seeds can be a little "wet."

Thanks everyone, I tossed it. It was definitely slimy, almost falling apart in my hands. TJ's is nearby but I already threw it out. Now I know to just cut my own next time.
