Is it bad that......
My daughter will be sleeping in her own room, in her own crib immediately when we return home from the hospital?!?!? I understand the convenience of having the baby in a bassinet right next to you, but our bedroom is on the smaller size and can't easily accommodate an infant sleeper. I also think its important that the baby is used to the crib to avoid having to deal with a transition from bassinet to crib. My friends keep telling me that I'm crazy for not having the baby sleep in my room. Honest opinions, please!

I don't think its bad at all. I do think like you said it's about convenience and it's not a must to have the baby in your room. I would do the same if our room was too small etc.

Do what works for you. Our girls were in our room in RNPs for 3.5 mo and transitioned fine to cribs. They are in a larger room in our house that is 5 steps down so we had to go down for feedings. The next baby will be in the room across from ours and we will start in the RNP and move to crib sooner

Absolutely not! We had her in our room only til 5 weeks and then transitioned her and she did well from the first night. Well do the same with this baby.

DD was in her crib after 2 weeks. The only reason why I had her in the rock and sleeper at first was because I was recovering from a c section and was having a hard time bending over to reach her in the crib. Once I felt fine, in her crib she went. Worked out fine.

Re: Is it bad that......
We transitioned our DS out of our room at 3 weeks of age (granted he was literally 2 feet across the hallway) because neither of us were sleeping well next to each other (newborns are noisy even when they are asleep so I kept waking the poor kid up thinking he was awake and hungry when he was actually sleeping). We may move this new DC in right away (or soon after)

Re: Is it bad that......
Its not bad. It was our plan too. but once we got home I realized it was just easier to have her in the rock n play next to my bed. She was up every 2 hours and I was alone most nights as DH worked overnight. I was so exhausted having her near the bed and not across the hall just worked better for me.

i think its totally fine to put them right in the crib, but be prepared to maybe want her in your room. its more convenient plus i worried so much about her sleeping in the first few days and weeks that i wanted to constantly check she was breathing lol

I had the same plan, but the first 2 weeks or so I couldn't lift dd out of the rnp or get out of bed on my own, so she stayed next to our bed in the rnp. Her and I then moved to the couch, and by 4 weeks or so she was in her room in the rnp by herself.
Moving to the crib however didn't happen until 7 months lol

This too. I was paranoid to have her so far away. The first few nights I would bolt upright out of a dead sleep to check her breathing. After that I calmed down a bit but would still put my hand under her nose a few times a night. #paranoidnewmommy

I definitely did the same thing! And then I got so used to her little noises that when I moved her to the crib, I couldn't sleep b/c it was too quiet!

I wish I had put DS in his crib sooner! lol. We tried him in a cradle in our room, but he absolutely hated it and wouldn't sleep more than 15 minutes at a time. I'm also a very light sleeper, so I woke up with every little sound/movement. He transitioned to his crib at 6 weeks old without a problem.

My friends who had a c-section warned me is want her as close as possible because it's hard to get out of bed to get the baby after the c-section. I too would be paranoid having her in another room in. The beginning, but I guess if you have a monitor you should be ok. I have a bassinet going in my room. I'm actually moving out a piece of furniture from my room temporarily to fit the bassinet.

Let's face it.... the baby will sleep the same way in your room as she will in her room. As long as you are comfortable with it, it is perfectly fine!

DD was 6 weeks old when she came home from the hospital (spent time in the nicu) but she went into her crib the very first night she was home and has slept in there every night since.

My son went right into the crib. I wish I could do it again with this baby but they have to share a room and I don't want the baby to disrupt my sons sleep.

Do what is best for you. With my DD, I had her in our room in a bassinet until she was 7 weeks old and then moved her to her crib. At that point she was sleeping from 11p-6a.
For this baby, his room is on the small side so he will start in our room and then go to his crib once he starts sleeping through the night.

If thats what you want to do then that's totally okay! It's also okay if you change your mind and have the baby sleep with you guys for a while. :)

What I've heard from BTDT moms is that is is easier to have baby nearby because you don't have to go as far when the baby wakes up ( especially with an exclusively breast fed baby who wakes up more). However, if you can't do it you can't do it and I'm sure it will be fine

Re: Is it bad that......
We had tried to have DS sleep in our room, but I didn't sleep well like that. Every little noise and I would jump. So we put him in his own room pretty early on. When he'd wake up in the middle of the night, I'd try to put him down in his crib, but if I couldn't get him down, he went into the swing (in our bedroom).
This time around, the swing doesn't fit in our bedroom so DD will be in her own room from day 1.

DS came home from the NICU at 5 days old, he was in the PNP for 2 weeks after and then, once I was able to walk regularly up and down the stairs, he was in his room in his crib at 3 weeks. He's now 4 months old and STTN and has been for the last 5 or 6 weeks. At minimum he sleeps 7-8 hours, typically it's more like 10-11 hours. At 4 weeks he was sleeping 5-6 hours at night and ONLY regressed when he started daycare.

Baby and I slept in the living room in the beginning. It was easier to watch TV to keep myself awake.

Whatever works for you! LO slept in the rock n play in the nursery the second day we got home from the hospital (first night we slept in the living room). DH is a light sleeper and our rooms are right next to each other.
