Is it bad to take Prometrium (Progesterone) before you Ovulate?
I'm wondering because I ovulated yesterday, but I started taking my Prometrium 1-2 days before then because I thought I was ovulating the other day. Will this harm anything since I added progesterone before I actually ovulated??? I'm suppose to take it when I ovulate until AF. Thanks!

No one?
I'm so worried that I've messed things up. I really thought I had just ovulated when I started taking them.

Re: Is it bad to take Prometrium (Progesterone) before you Ovulate?
I don't know for sure, but my *thought is yes, it would affect O. Progesterone comes into play in your body after O. It's what dries up your cervical mucus and signals the ovaries to stop with the eggs. That's why women only ovulate once (unless in the case of fraternal twins where it's 2 within the same 24 hours) in a menstrual cycle. My thinking is that you can halt the ovulation process by taking it before O. But as always, definitely check with your dr.

Re: Is it bad to take Prometrium (Progesterone) before you Ovulate?
Ok, thanks.
I'm just not sure? Doctor's office is of course closed today. I'll call on Monday.
I'm pretty sure I O though 2 days after starting to take the med. My temps went up which is why I thought I had O so I started taking the meds, but then my temps dropped a lot and then went way back up and have stayed there so far, so I'm pretty sure I still ovulated at least. I love and hate temping all at the same time.
I guess we'll wait and see. Thanks!
If you look at my chart below, the first temp rise have normally been the start of after O for me, but we were in a new house, etc. so I wasn't sure. Then since my temp dropped a lot I knew I didn't O yet so that's why I was concerned about taking the meds too early. I'm pretty sure that I have O now. It doesn't seem that the med delayed my O at least. I just wasn't sure if it could have done other damage elsewhere? I don't think it affected my CM either which is good. I still have Fertile CM after I started taking it.
My chart!

well that's good that you think you still O'd! You need three high temps to confirm O, right? (I don't temp, but have seen everyone's charts on these boards), so see what tomorrow;s temp brings and if FF draws cross hairs.

I think it needs to be taken 2 days after a positive OPT is what my Dr mentioned.
If you take it before Ovulation you may stop Ovulation.

Re: Is it bad to take Prometrium (Progesterone) before you Ovulate?
Well, it looks like I've definitely ovulated, so hopefully it didn't mess anything up!
I am just not used to having these temps. They've been consistently lower pre and post ovulation. But, being in a new place probably messed with that. I'll take whatever it is as long as I'm ovulating. So now I'm 3dpo and don't feel anything yet!
Good luck everyone!
ETA: I still think that my pre-O temps are higher than usual because of other things that may have made them off. Not sure, but possible.
