Is it harder than you thought it would be?
Owning a place...do you find it hard or easier in terms of finances?

easier - we probably could have afforded more, but im glad we didnt, because we can save $$ for the trade up in a few years.

Re: Is it harder than you thought it would be?
well.. we've never rented, but i find owning to be not too bad! we bought alot smaller house than we could afford so that we wouldn't be struggling.... granted its not my ideal house but its nice for now, and it allows us to save money to add on or buy a larger house in the future... plus its nice to still be able to afford to go out to eat and things like that... really, i think its all about not expecting too much, and buying what you can afford instead of maxing yourself out to get your "dream" house...

It's about what we thought - some months are worse than others, but we have a hold on it and we're taking it one day at a time!

Re: Is it harder than you thought it would be?
we only paid one month of bills so far and considering we are still paying for our apartment too, it was a bit tough this month I think. (Plus Uncle Sam also took his cut on the 15th!) I think when we don't have to pay a mortgage and rent, the payment will be exactly as we expected and definately affordable for us. we ensured this before we bought the house.

Scary at first. After a few months we realized that we could do it and didn't stuggle too much.
Then we went and bought an investment property.

Re: Is it harder than you thought it would be?
It's about what I expected but now I'm itching to do some pricey projects. I was just looking around the outside this morning and it would be wonderful to have a brick driveway leading to a brick walkway, leading to the backyard to a brick patio to replace the older stuff we have. I'm sure that if I price it, the "design" that I had in mind will be out of the question. My DH is super handy but I think this may be pushing it!!!

Re: Is it harder than you thought it would be?
i have a tendancy to worry a LOT, so in a way I'd say it's a little easier than I was expecting. We're on a much tighter budget than when we were renting, but I've found that it's all about planning. We don't eat out as much, we choose to eat out and rent a movie OR eat in and go to the movies but in the end, we still get to do everything (just about) that we wanted. We think the trade off is worth it though.

Re: Is it harder than you thought it would be?
Never really thought about it. Our mortgage payment (no taxes or homeowners) is lower than our rent was. It is all the rest of the bills that is hard-lol!!

Re: Is it harder than you thought it would be?
about what we thought it would be.... we have a mortgage that allows us to spend a little and save a little on top of our monthly expenses. I'm content of course I look foward to the days when I can save a lot
