Gavin is on the move! He is crawling and can go across the room in no time.

It's awesome, but as I am watching I cringe because of all the dirt and dog hair he is touching with his hands on the floor.

I vacuum everyday, but still I have 2 dogs and there is only so much I can do. I want to make my house a shoeless house, where you take your shoes off at the doorway.

Am I just being an anxious mom?

Its not just you---we have a lab and I swear I could swiffer 2x a day with this dog----I try my best, but I still find myself brushing hair off DS pants after he has been crawling around Chat Icon

No not at all, everyone takes there shoes off when they come into my house, I don't want my floors or carpets to get dirty when my kids are playing on them, call me nuts but I don't care--lol

Dealing with dog hair is hard my mom has 3 dogs and a housekeeper and still gets lots of hair around the house.

If you want people to take there shoes off when they come to your home is fine, I see no problem with that when you have kids in the home!

When my DD started crawling I started bleaching my floors I was so neurotic. We have a shoeless house and an 80lb dog. I vacuum everyday and either swift or use my steamer.

I'm of the opinon that a little bit of dirt and dust is good for their immune systems. Especially pet hair.

I remember freaking when DD learned how to move off of the clean blanket she was laying on on the floor. It lasted a while....I would cringe and cringe.....it's gotten better though (although we don't wear shoes in the house, walking through mystery puddles in the city and then coming home one day made me put a quick end to wearing shoes in the house Chat Icon )

Our house is a semi shoeless house but really with pets it can't be help.
Honestly a little dirt never killed anyone. I would just try to let it go and let him enjoy yourself, you'll make yourself crazy otherwise.

I secretly wish my dog and cat will run away and find a better home Chat Icon just to get rid of the pet hair!

Re: Is it just me or does this drive anyone else nuts?

please it's just DH & I, we have a no shoe home. I really wanted a puppy, but I told DH not until the kids are out of the crawling/everything in the mouth stage!
With the wood floors I was thinking about attaching swifter pads to DD, at least she would be helping me cleanChat Icon

I was like that before DS. The thought of dirt on the floor and then putting those feet in my bed grosses me out!

Re: Is it just me or does this drive anyone else nuts?

I hated this when he first started crawling, and I went into overdrive cleaning our floors. But guess what? I couldn't keep it up without exhausting myself and a little dirt and dust is probably good at building up their immune systems.

I do ask everyone to take their shoes off when they come in the house now. We do, and I decided all guests should as well. I think this helps a lot.

Re: Is it just me or does this drive anyone else nuts?

In my house, the dog gets every single piece of lint long before the baby does. The dog's shedding happens in phases, not always related to seasons. Right now he's not shedding much. I still get a little grossed out but with my allergies I am used to trying to get rid of dust and hair as often as possible. I would like to get a Dyson soon. We have a cleaning lady but usually only once every other week.
