Is it possible for a 16 month old to overeat?
No joke. Alex has been on a rampage for about a week now. For example, on Sunday she ate:
One bowl of applesauce w/cereal 20 mins later, one bowl of yogurt with mashed banana 20 mins later, two fig newton bars 20 mins later, a bowl of cheerios 2 hours later a large bowl of pasta some corn and sweet potato 20 mins later an orange An hour later an entire whole wheat pita with hummus inside A bag of bamba Dinner - half a piece of broiled tilapia Some barley soup 2 slices of cheese
Granted, she BARELY takes any milk - she drinks a lot of water, but only about 6 ounces of milk the whole day. I thought it was a growth spurt, but this has been going on for quite some time now. Doesn't it seem excessive?

Re: Is it possible for a 16 month old to overeat?
My DD has been the same way for about 3 days now...I can't get over how much she's eating as compared to a few weeks ago (she's also 16 months). Plus, she drinks about 16 oz of milk a day as well. I don't know...maybe it's a growth spurt thing???

OMG! She's gonna eat you out of house and home soon...
Maybe it is a growth spurt.

I say growth spurt - but it sounds similar to how my son eats ona good day - he is a big eater at times. We use to worry about over feeding him at that age too - we thought the dr would yell at us but would up - his weight has leveled out and he is only about 75%ile for weight.

I'm guessing she's going through a big growth spurt and she's extra hungry.

I'd say growth spurt too, but the thing is, this has been going on for at least two weeks now! Her teacher at school asked that we pack her breakfast because she's stealing all the other babies' food on the table during breakfast time - thing is, we give her breakfast when she wakes up!

While DD doesn't necessarily eat as much she grazes like that most of the day. I'm sure they still have growth spurts too. She's like Alex too and doesn't drink hardly any milk (what does your ped say about that?) Maybe 6-8oz a day and water the rest of the day. I think it's fine. I don't think they know to overeat yet, I think they stop when they're full.

Dh took her to her last appointment and I don't think he mentioned it... I beleive at that point she was still drinking it regularly - it's only been the last month or two that she's gone on a milk strike - we have an appointment next week and I'll bring it up then. What does your ped say about it?

Well she was doing better at her last appointment also, usually close to two sippies a day. Now she barely drinks one. What I do is try to feed her a Wheatbix most mornings because I mix it with a good amount of milk and she eats the whole bowl. I am going to ask him but we don't have our next appointment until March.
