definitely not!! I went through a major career change at 30 and I was one of the youngest people in all of my classes.

Re: Is it too late to start a "career" or have "career goals" at the age of 36?
I recently turned 34 and have experienced a good amount of success in my career. When I was 27 I set a goal of being a company director by 30 which I did (ok I was 31).
Lately I have become insanely bored and have been thinking of making a career change. I send out resume's when I see something that interest me here and there.
My thought is NO you are NEVER to old to change your mind on anything, especially a career path. I don't recommed quitting a job if you don't have something lined up or wracking up student loan debt at this stage of the game though-it's important to be responsible and accountable. Follow your heart without losing your mind

Well, where do you want to be 10 years from now? A 46-year old working in corporate, miserable with her job, or a 46-year old who has achieved or is working toward her career goals?
Don't let yourself make excuses for what you really want to do. Age is not a good enough excuse, IMHO.
Go for it.

Good for you. I thinks its never too late. I also wanted to let you know that sometimes if you get a job as an aid or assistant, the hospital will sometimes pay toward your tuition. I work in a hospital now and many nursing aids were able to go back to school and have their education funded. Good luck!

Re: Is it too late to start a "career" or have "career goals" at the age of 36?
A while ago I also thought it was "too late" to go back to school and get a degree to follow my dream. School at that time would have taken 3 years.
Someone asked at that time how old I would be in 3 years if I didn't go back to school.
It's never too late.

Re: Is it too late to start a "career" or have "career goals" at the age of 36?
Posted by mitabtrfly I want to be a Nurse. The thought of going back to school is scary but I am going to go for it.
THANKS!!!
I'm in a Nursing program, and A LOT of my classmates are in their 30s, 40s, and even a bunch in their 50s.
When i was torn about going back for it, DH said to me, "3 years is going to pass no matter what. You could either be finished with school by then and starting a new career, or still doing the same thing and wondering about what you want to do next." We're not limited by our age, only our attitude.

Re: Is it too late to start a "career" or have "career goals" at the age of 36?
I met a teacher in his late 50's - I thought he was teaching forever, but he was talking about his student teaching experience a few years ago.... When I asked him about it - he said that he decided he didnt like his job anymore and went into teaching - so its never too late to do anything!

Re: Is it too late to start a "career" or have "career goals" at the age of 36?
I went back to school at 30 for a career change and it took me about 6 years part time, then full time to finish a degree and start my new career. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. I was also in a place emotionally and financially where it was feasible for me to do this.
A lot of it is about attitude. Julia Child's career started in her late 30s, early 40s. One of my favorite authors, Isabel Allende wrote her first novel when she was 40. I don't think it is ever too late to do something you are passionate about.

My mom is in her 50s and going back to school to start a new career. So no, I don't think 36 is too old at all!

Re: Is it too late to start a "career" or have "career goals" at the age of 36?
i agree with everyone else, it's never too late. i've actually been thinking about this a lot lately as i'd like to make a major career change. however my problem is that i'd need to go get a bachelor's degree again because i can't enter a grad program in what i want to do with the major i had for my first bachelor's. have any of you who've gone back to school gotten a second bachelor's or did you all just go to grad school?

I got a second bachelors degree then a masters degree. I didn't have enough courses completed for the major to go directly to grad school. FM if you have more specific questions
