Is karate worth it?

DS is doing a free month of karate class. He has only been there two times but loved it!! For those that go, is it worth the money? It's $130 for 2x a week, but you have to do a year long membership... The belts and everything are included. I loved this place and everything about it, but wasn't sure about the price... Also, do you notice a difference in your kids after they go? If I see any difference in DS with focusing, I will continue to do it, but I wasn't sure if others see results. Thanks!!

Re: Is karate worth it?

We just did an 8 week trial at Tae Kwon Do with DS who is 5. He liked it, didnt love it. I didnt notice a behavioral difference and the price was about the same. It would be around $835 for 6 months with various fees for testing here and there. My problem was the contract... DS is 5! How can he be expected to stay interested in something for that long for that price? I told the manager that if they ever do month by month, email me. If DS had loved it, I would have signed him up no question, but after 8 weeks he said he wanted to try little league instead so we are going to do that.

Thanks for your response! That's what I was worried about - a year is a long time! Maybe I can have DH talk to them about that... I appreciate your answer.

Maybe you can ask for an extended trial? I felt like 2 months was a really generous amount of time for DS to figure out how much he liked it and for me to see if it made a difference in concentration, respect, etc.

Re: Is karate worth it?

My sons took karate for 3 years. They really enjoyed it but didn't do a think for their attention span or ability to focus.
