is the kindle compatible with digital library books?
I was just on the suffolk site and I believe it said the kindle wasn't compatible with their site. Is there anywhere to download free books for the kindle?
TIA

There are 'processes' to convert certain formats offered from Overdrive to Kindle format. But some consider those 'methods' to be illegal. If you Google it I'm sure you can find the method.
Not sure if it's worth it though... I'm glad I got the Nook.

thanks, this was actually for a friend and he hasn't opened the kindle yet but I think my advice to him will be to send it back and purchase a nook. You can download online books from the library with the nook, right?

Yes; the Nook will read ePub files which is the industry standard for DRM protected ebooks. With the Nook you can use library books, and download from almost all ebook retailers besides Amazon (which uses a proprietary format.)

The library told me that only the Sony or Nook ereaders would work for the software recognition. They both support the epub format.
But if you have a computer, you can read ebooks from the library on a laptop/computer at home, listen to audio book via mp3 players. It's not just the Nook that can read the library book.
The advantage of the Nook type device is that it's much smaller and easier to read than reading a book on a laptop. The "ink" is made to look like real books. It's not as harsh to read than on a laptop.
