Not a thread, but a site dedicated to both Port Orleans resorts.

Re: Is there a thread comparing Port Orleans French vs Riverside?
I've stayed in Riverside and we LOVED it!!! It's a beautiful resort and I can't wait to go back in May!! This time we're doing a Royal Room in the mansions. Last time we were in Alligator Bayou. Riverside has nice pools and activities, Boatwright's restaurant is really good, and we love the boat over to Disney Springs. You will love it. Aside from slightly different theming I don't think there is too much else that separates Riverside from French Quarter.

We stayed in Riverside in February and loved it. It is a big resort with many buildings far from the lobby/food area. We requested building 16 or 17 and were given 17 which was great. It was still a walk to the lobby but not awful. We were also in between two bus terminals so that worked out well. If you want to be guaranteed close to the lobby/food then book a preferred room. I had called and put in a request with Disney reservations and also faxed over a request to the hotel. We never waited more then 15 minutes for a bus to any of the parks and going back to the resort at the end of the day we never waited long either. I have heard good things about French Quarter too.

Re: Is there a thread comparing Port Orleans French vs Riverside?
We just stayed at French Quarter and loved it. It's really pretty and compact so everything was close. The main drawback in my opinion is that there is no restaurant, just the food court which I did not think was very good. But otherwise we had dining reservations elsewhere so it was not that big of a deal.
Riverside is a short walk from FQ and we had a great dinner at Boatwright's. The main difference I noticed was that Riverside is very spread out when compared to FQ. But it's also very lovely. I think it will come down to your own preferences because both are great.

There's also some really good info on easywdw.com under the resorts tab. Compares each resort in every price category.
That said, both are great and I don't think you can go wrong either way!

We have stayed at both properties and love them both. My kids prefer Riverside, as it has a smaller pool for each building in addition to the main pool. I also prefer Riverside better because the food court is larger and I really like both the bar and restaurant there. However, Riverside is large (more like a resort) while FQ is much smaller (i.e. less walking). You can't go wrong with either.

Re: Is there a thread comparing Port Orleans French vs Riverside?
My suggestion is to check out www.portorleans.org. It is the unofficial page for both resorts. I find people like one over the other. So a lot of it is personal preference. If you plan to spend more time in the parks of have smaller kids, FQ is probably your better bet. Smaller pool with smaller slide, one bus, fewer buildings so quicker to get to the park. I think Riverside is better with older kids, or planning to spend more time at the resort. Much bigger good court, bigger pool with bigger slide. More activities. While I know FQ has big fans, my family feels it is more motel like than Riverside. This is just a personal thing both have outdoor corridors. I believe in looking over the pictures of the two resorts and seeng which appeals to you more.

Loved FQ. Kids did too. Location was close to what we needed. Room was small, but clean. Pool & playground was good for young kids.
