Re: Is there a town on LI that...
That pic. totally skeeves me! I get them but don't have many of them. Once in a blue moon I see them. Funny thing is I've only noticed them for the past 2 years. I never see them anywhere else! Where the hell are they coming from??

Re: Is there a town on LI that...
I feel like there is an infestation of them lately. I've found about 10 already; no joke!!! Sometimes they get upstairs too.
I'm in Holtsville.

Re: Is there a town on LI that...
I see that this is very old, but it made me laugh . . . I'm in a very wooded area on the north shore and we get tons of BIG nasty spiders in our finished basement. Every time I go down there I turn on the light and look at the ground so I don't step on a spider. The other day I was actually RELIEVED to realize what I thought was another awful spider was just a camel cricket. Not sure why but they skeeve me out a lot less than the spiders.

Re: Is there a town on LI that...
DH and I have encountered spider crickets in our basement (Hauppauge/Smithtown). We had never seen these things in Brooklyn. They are grotesque monsters!!! When DH attempts to kill one, he has to use two shoes. One shoe for where it is before it jumps and one for after it jumps. We put glue traps around the basement and they seem to be working. I'd consider getting an exterminator but we have a cat.

Buy a swiffer thing for this...it's great b/c you can splat them from a distance and they don't "see" it coming. I killed many of these with my swiffer.

Re: Is there a town on LI that...
Have had them in my home since October 2005. Lived in western Nassau. Put on humidifier and have glue traps, finally most are gone.

Re: Is there a town on LI that...
We have an exterminator and they said these are pretty recent inhabitants of LI and impervious to sprays, etc due to the way they see...glue traps are the best way, I was told...they are gross!

Re: Is there a town on LI that...
I'm out east (Hampton Bays.) For the past two years, they were bad, this year I've only seen 2 inside (finished basement), but lots in the garage. We also had cardboard outside that was waiting for garbage pickup and there was one under that. The glue traps do work though, but it's gross b/c you have to leave any that are caught in there to attract the others.
We also run a dehumidifier in the basement that drains underground. That helps.

Re: Is there a town on LI that...
AHHHH my camel cricket panic stricken thread is back!
Well I havent seen any THIS season. Looks like I posted this last november and it seems we usually see them oct- dec so I am certain anyday you will hear my screams no matter WHERE you live!!!
Yes it is true though....the dehumidifier and glue traps work the best.
I still hate them!!!
Regular crickets though have been HORRENDOUS since august. Way worse than previous years. We found them in my CAR
