Is there any way to get out of a Sprint early cancellation fee?

I think I still have about a year left on a two year contract. But I want out of Sprint so Dh and I can find something cheaper.

Do I have any chance of fighting it? Has anyone ever gotten them to waive it?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. TIA!!

I think the only way is to move to an area where there is no sprint coverage.

Honestly, you signed the contract so you are pretty much on the hook for it unless you move to an area where you have no coverage at all like the pp said.

However, you can ask them about the prorated termination fees. Sprint recently announced that they would take money off the cancellation fee for every month you are with them after the first 6 months. So you might not have to pay the entire thing, but you would be responsible for some of it.

You may also want to look into simply changing your plan. Sometimes if people are on older plans, they may not get the most for the money as some of the new plans.

Feel free to fm me if you have questions.. I work for Sprint and really hate to hear that people want to leave.

why don't you change your plan to something cheaper?

plans and rates are comparable with other companies so i don't see how their would be cost savings

Thanks! Thats really helpful.

I honestly want to leave because I feel that the price of a new treo, which is what I currently have, even with the discount you get to extend your plan is outrageous. Even with the cancellation fee, it is still cheaper to buy the BB storm and move to verizon than just to get a new phone with sprint.

I signed a contract so I will pay it if I have to but I will definitely see about prorating the fee. It cant hurt. Thanks again!Chat Icon

I'm trying to get out of my 4 line Sprint contract too. I've been a customer since 2000 & I'm done.
I'm in the biggest shared minute plan & we went over last month & my bill is $605 Chat Icon
I've called & dealt with the crappy customer service a million times to say our plan was too small, we even put DSD on a seperate plan to save minutes & we still pay for her line. My DS has god awful service on his phone, his call log clearly shows that 60% of his calls get dropped in a minute or less, I've spent approx 3 full days of my life on the phone with sprint complaining about this with no improvement.
I'm waiting for a "retention supervisor" to call me back....it may cost as much as $600 to end the contract plus the huge bill that I'm stuck with but I'm so ****** I don't care.

I just left Sprint for Verizon but waited till my contract was up. I had no major issues, I was just sick of them and their crappy CS...If you do cancel, see about the prorated deal. They will also throw every "deal" your way to try to keep you. Good luck!

Re: Is there any way to get out of a Sprint early cancellation fee?

I would say the same as pp about saying you have no coverage.. but they will fight you tooth and nail about why you kept the service for a year and if it was that bad then you would have cancelled it way before the year.

It happened to my old boss. he lives in Huntington bay-the service is HORRIBLE. He had to call them from his back yard, under a tree in the middle of winter because this was the only place he had service for some reason (His house phone was unavailable for whatever reason)

His dropped call % was RIDICULOUS. He had 5 phones with them, and they wanted the $175 cancellation fee for each phone.

Chances are you won't get out of it without paying.

Re: Is there any way to get out of a Sprint early cancellation fee?

I hate Sprint, but unfortunately, I have to agree with the PP and I think you are stuck with paying to get out of it.

A few years ago, I called them the LAST day of my contract and told them I was cancelling because I didn't want to take the chance that they would automatically renew it for another year. The rep told me she would turn the service off at midnight to ensure that would not happen. I got a bill for the $100-150 termination fee (whatever it was at the time) anyway. Chat Icon I could never get through on the customer service line, waited 45 minutes at the Sprint Store to just leave, because I had to get back to work, sent a certified letter to fight the charge and got no response, just kept getting bills. I finally got through on the phone to them because I called at 1 am, and the girl tells me I cancelled the day before, that's why they charged me. I finally got it cleared up with a supervisor, but I will NEVER use them again.

I paid $175 for ONE line. it would have been $350 to cancell both our lines, but thankfully my contract period was up.
