Is there anyone who does not use time out as a method to correct behaviors?
I rarely put dd in time out bc I think its ineffective for my family. I feel that she doesnt learn much from it and talking through it wourks out better. ANyone else not using it?

We use time out, but we also talk it out. DS knows very well why he is there and what he could have done differently etc.

We don't use it. I think I have used it a total of five times. It doesn't do anything for DD.

We use both methods. Sometimes he is too out of control and won't talk, so he goes into time out first to calm down, and then we talk.

Same here. Sometimes the best method is to do time out, (or as we do it "go to your room") other times I sit and talk it out with him. Depends on his attitude and the offense.

i don't do it much, never really liked it...but out of desperation tried it when DD was older. now it has turned into "go to your room and calm down".
once she is calm i ask her why she was sent to her room and what she needs to do about it (i.e. go apologize to her sister)...

I don't use time out. I tried when he was 16 months. It was not working. It would work even less now. I got my way in other way.
Mommy "angry eyes" still work best.

I started using the 1-2-3 method and haven't reached 3 since the first time so no time outs needed.
I'm very VERY lucky with DD she's a very well behaved kid. (so far)

oh i forgot that i did this as well and also hardly ever reached 3.
worked for a while, but then i was sick of saying 1-2-3 all the time. plus when other people (like my mother and sister) needed to discipline her, DD would always wait for the countdown, so it came across like she was never listening...which she wasn't
