Is there anything that can be done? (Medical Coverage)

I don't know if anything can be done, but if anyone has any info I would to know.

I went to the dermatologist and was diagnosed with Alepocia Areata. Went to see the dermatologist twice, and they sent me for bloodwork to check my thyroid.

Anywho, after my 2nd appt and after the bloodwork was done, I find out by a letter from my DH's union that Alepocia Areata is not covered under our insurance.

Therefore, both appts with the doctor, the injections I needed while I was there and the bloodwork is not covered.
I found out the bloodwork is not covered because even though they were checking my thyroid levels, it was coded under Alopecia Areata, therefore not be covered.

This is becoming alot of money out of our pocket. I will most likely have to go back for more appts. Is there anything I can do? Any advice?

For the bloodwork that you have already had - call the doctor and tell them the situation. They will probably resubmit the claim with a different diagnostic code.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this - insurance companies stink. I'm dealing with getting preapproval for a surgical procedure and the associated pre-tests and between talking to the drs and the insurance company it's hours on the phone.

I agree. Have them resubmit under a different dx code. Totally ridculous.

I agree with the above. I've had to do that with my OBGYN and Quest Diagnostics.

Thanks, I will call the doctors office and Quest to see what can be done.

I am just so annoyed, cause how are you really supposed to know what you are covered for and not

And this is not the time of year we need to be spending ANY extra money Chat Icon
