is this a strange request... kind of a long vent too
DS is a powerhouse, ball of energy, I feel we need to get him outside and get him to run around a little before naps and bed. We don't have a yard or house. So its either a walk to the park, or a walk around the block.
I tell DH, I don't think you should go to the park, because its an hour to his bedtime, and it takes your 30 min round trip to walk the stroller over and he'll only really get 30 min worth of exercise. Just take his hand and walk around the block, run around the block, etc.
I look out the window, see DH's car parked in the lot, see DH with the door open and DS playing in the backseat.
He thinks I'm nuts to request him "to walk the baby", because he says the baby has a mind of his own. I get that, but you are the father, hold his hand, tell him we are walking, and go. Am I crazy?
I do this with DS all the time and he's very good at holding my hand and just walking around the block looking at people and things.

DS isn't good about holding my hand, so I would never go on a walk with him. I'll let him run around a park, but can't go on walks. I've found DH is better w/ DS when I don't give him direction though--as hard as it is to sit back, let him learn for himself--they might find something different that works for the two of them.

No I don't think you're crazy to ask him to bring his son for a walk. Better he learns to hold hands now with DH than when he can run faster.

exactly, DS runs but its a jog, its not a true run, so we can keep up even with just a fast paced walk. Being a NYC girl this is how I naturally walk anyway, so I do my walk and DS jogs alongside holding my hand the entire time. And I even had people ask me if he was having trouble walking why am I holding him. I said I want him to hold my hand, and I get crazy looks. Well DS holds my hand like a perfect baby, and I don't care.
I just can't get DH to teach him to do it. It annoys me, I'll be the bad cop I guess.
