Is this normal - "I love you"

My 2.5yo dd tells me she loves me like 30x a night and maybe 75x a day on a weekend day. She'll say variations like I love you and I like you, I love you a lot, I love you so much, or make a cute noise and say she loves me. When she's with my mom she's telling my mom several times she loves me. Or she'll tell my mom she loves her but then quickly proclaim her love for me too. Tonight she was telling me how I am a really good mommy and a very nice mommy.

It's so cute but it's all the time. Is this an age related phase thing? She's also really aware I go to work and says quite a bit "you came back!" But she'll say it on the weekend and at random times (not just when I get home from work). Miso is this normal?

I don't know if normal but it's really sweet.

Wait another year and she'll be screaming that you're mean and she doesn't want to speak to you and you ruin everything! Unless that's just my daughter...sigh.

DD is 3 and tells me she loves me all the time, a hundred times a day. She also says it to DH, my parents, the girl that watches her, her friends... Then when I tell her "no" to something she'll run to DH and tell him "I am mad at mommy. She doesn't listen to me". Then 2 minutes later I get an "I love you mommy". So I guess it's an age thing. I am taking it all in now because one day I'll be the worst mother in the world in her eyes! Lol.

I think it's an age thing. I remember when my DD learned how to say "I love you" and understood what it meant, she too would say it constantly. It's so cute!!! Enjoy it...........like everything else, it won't last!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's normal and quite sweet. Now I get "I love you" notes written to me everyday (DD's 5). I'm not sure what to do with all the papers piling up but feel guilty for throwing any of them out!

Definitely a very sweet age related thing. At that age DD would tell me constantly "Mommy, you're my best friend" and "You're the best girl in the whole world". Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Aww it's cute. I'm sure it's just a phase. My DD just went through a phase where every doll and photo she saw was sad. And she would cry and tell us she was sad all day.

Thank you everyone! I love it and think it's precious and know one day I'll miss it terribly. But was just curious if it was normal or if she was actually obsessed with me lol.

Re: Is this normal - "I love you"

Well yesterday I told my almost three year old I loved him and his reply was "I don't love you" . Irrational but I cried for like 10 minutes straight. Have no idea why he said that other then to get a reaction from me. So right now I love you 500xs a day sounds great ??

My DD says "mama, I NEED you"

It is so, so, sweet.

She does it hundreds of times a day & a few times at night. Everything DOES end eventually... I'm bottling it up for her teenage years!

Awww...

I tell DS to say "I love you, but I don't like you" when I'm punishing him.

Aww. Chat Icon Chat Icon

She probably got some very good positive feedback the first few times she did it, so now she's "trained" to do it. Totally normal. Enjoy it!

Re: Is this normal - "I love you"

I think it's normal - a) showing the affection/attachment, and b) kids sort of perseverance at this age. My daughter tells me a million times a day that I go to work, that I have a white car, and that daddy's silver car stays at home. Sometimes they just pick one thing and say it over and over agin, so I guess it's nice that it's I love you!

Aww that's so hard. Chat Icon My DS did this a few times and it KILLED me. So upsetting. I found that the more I reacted to it, the more he would do it. He also just likes to argue so if I say "the sky is blue" his answer will be "the sky is NOT blue" just to see how I react. So as hard as it was, I just ignored him and now he hasn't said it in months. And I make a HUGE stink when he tells me how much he loves me, so that he gets a big reaction from positive words.
