Is this normal for an almost 6 week old?

After reading the various posts on feedings I'm actually a little worried that DD is not taking in enough formula for her age and weight. Sorry for another feeding question!

I pretty much feed her on demand, and her feeding schedule definitely varies day to day but on a average feeding, she may take anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 ounces, regardless of how long in between her feedings are, if it's 2 hours or 4. She's 10 pounds already, and some sites I've been looking at says she should be taking in 5 ounces at each feeding. I had to start writing down how much she's taking in each day. Again it varies, some days 18 ounces, others 21 or 22. I even changed her nipple to a level 2, and even though feeding has been much easier for her (she was sucking really hard and getting a lot of gas at feedings), she still takes in the same amount as before I changed her nipple.

Our ped is not worried as she's been gaining weight but is this normal? Can she just be a light eater? I'm surprised that even if she goes 4 hours without eating, she still will only take 2 1/2 ounces. TIA

As long as she is gaining weight, don't worry. At 7 months my DD only drinks 5 ozs at a feeding.

My firstborn NEVER took more than 5-6oz even at a year old. Now, my second is a porker and has downed 12oz in a sitting (this was DH's doing, I would have NEVER allowed that!).

Don't worry about it. As long as she's gaining weight she's fine. Every baby has different needs in terms of how many ounces.

If she is gaining weight,,you have nothing to worry about!
