Is this normal protocol after a car accident?
DH, myself, and two of our kids were in a minor car accident on Thursday. Thank GOD we are all ok, but we were taken to the hospital to be checked out since he has his neck injury and I started having contractions like crazy and my blood pressure spiked up.
The other driver's car insurance rep is insistent that we meet in person rather than discuss our "injuries" over the phone. I asked my own rep if it was ok to meet with them and they assured me it was, but I'm just not understanding why they need to see us in person? Is this normal protocol with car accidents? I've never had one before.
And if it makes a difference, it looks like the other driver will be found at fault.

not much experience in injury's but imo, the insurance companies should be working this out, not you. Submit the hospital report to them. They only reason they would want to see you is to have one of their dr.s check you out but its stupid as you already went to the hospital and incurred fee's

Is this normal protocol after a car accident?
IMO. No it's not normal. They can get medical reports and go from there.

Ive never heard of that. You do not have to talk / meet with the other insurance company at all. Your car no fault insurance handles all of your medical.

This.
There is no reason to meet with them. You don't even have to be in direct contact with them. That's what you have your insurance company for.
Glad you are all okay.

I've never heard of that, and you would think we would see it on here if it was "normal" protocol ;).

No way is that normal, I had a minor accident which involved a few cars, and never even spoke to the person who was at fault. IMO I would NOT go meet in person, it sounds weird to me.
ETA: I am glad you are all ok btw!

Re: Is this normal protocol after a car accident?
No way.
I wouldn't meet with them. I don't see what good could come of it from my end.
Maybe they want to apologize & reasure themselves you're ok but the skeptic in me says they want to use some kind of emotional plea to get you to not pursue further.
I'm glad you're ok! You have way too much on your plate these days.

Re: Is this normal protocol after a car accident?
Definitely don't think it is normal. It also isn't like you have major injuries and there would be any large monetary settlement.

Re: Is this normal protocol after a car accident?
No not normal, but becoming more common.
My parents were in a major car accident just about a year ago and the next day, the other party's insurance rep showed up at my parents business. She had a check for $1k ready for them and asked them to sign some paperwork. Basically, the paperwork said that they are waving the right to sue should they have any future repercussions from the accident. They obviously didn't sign, but I could totally see the instant money being a big draw for people. So shady... Maybe that's what they plan to do to you.

Re: Is this normal protocol after a car accident?
DO NOT MEET WITH THEM!! They do this so they can check you out to see if there is any potential for a lawsuit. They could possibly offer you 500 for your injuries and you will have to sign off on something that says you are fine. DO NOT DO THIS. I was in an accident a few years ago and I seemed fine at first, got sore, and then before I knew it I was in pt 3 days a week, getting injections, and dealing with chronic pain. If I would have kept the appointment with the insurance company I wouldn't have been able to pursue my lawsuit. Also, don't ever give them more info than they need. Their job is to screw you.
Good luck and I hope you and your family are ok

I am shocked that your insurance company would allow you to meet with them. I wouldn't go unless I was subpoena and definitely not without an attorney to protect my rights

It's not shady - they are trying to minimize their losses by settling your claim quickly (if you have a claim). Your company pays No-Fault (your medical bills) and the other company would pay you BI (Bodily Injury) if your injuries meet the threshold for payment and their insured was at fault. I'm guessing that since you are PG, they are concerned about a possible large settlement in the future and would prefer to settle now. If they settle now, they would probably save some money and be able to close the file faster.
If I was in this situation, I would not meet with them. Some injuries or exacerbations don't become apparent for a few days. I would conduct everything by phone and correspondence at the moment until you are comfortable otherwise.

Coming from an attorney who works in personal injury law, I would never let my client meet with the at fault party's insurance adjuster ;)

Exactly. Just make sure all of your No Fault forms are filled out and sent to your insurance company w/in 30 days of the accident, most important being the NF-2.

Is this normal protocol after a car accident?
No...... My hubby works for a large insurance company, he NEVER meets with claimants who have injuries... They review the medical reports for doctors assessments, the claims reps are not doctors.
