Is this odd for a Doctor to say ?
I have many dr. 's in the practice I go to, the one time I have this dr. He says ok - next app't I want to hear at least 6 words from your daughter.
Her next app't is her 15 month app't and that is in a few weeks.
6 words is NOT happening, she has 2 ma ma and da da.
I just don't like time frames on her development. I know now a days it is important with all the issues out there. But I am not rushing her to talk, 15 months is still young in my opinion.

Whats the worst that can happen? He refers you to EI and it turns out to have been unnecessary? Not such a bad thing. My daughter has been involved with EI and all it has meant is highly skilled playmates/developmental specialist to teach her and play with her. Don't be afraid!

I love the way you phrased this. So True. To the OP: it's nice to hear someone who is not so obsessed with their kids meeting their milestones "on time" -- I wish everyone was like that, including me. I'm sure she's fine, and yes, it's normal for a doctor to say that, but maybe not in those words. Mine says, "We usually like to see children saying X words in addition to Mama and Dada by their 15 month check-up, but all children develop differently. If you'd like to call EI, it's a free service and may put your mind at ease" -- which it did.

Is it odd for him to say? ......No....Thats what their job is, to basically say, this is the milestone and when it should happen....But Your the moma nd know your child best and know what they are capable of.
Did he say what he would want to do if it wasnt met? Or did you ask how you should approach teaching her this?
I mean its not like she will wake up and just start saying it ya know?
