Is your child like this? Please read and share..

Does anyone else have a child who is not affectionate at all?

Megan is 14 months. She hates to be cuddled or hugged. She needs me to lay with her to fall asleep at night but if I put a hand on her, stroke her hair, wrap my arm around her, rub her back, she FREAKS out. She will use all her strength to push me away. She just wants things HER WAY!

She will blow kisses..and if you say I love you to her, she will kiss you right away..but as far as sitting with anyone, letting anyone hug her..she HATES IT!

I thought this was a personality trait and it was just the child she is. But now its worrying me. Ive never really seen a child who hated "loving" how she does. It actually kind of makes me very sad. I always thought that when I had a child I would be able to love them up..smother them with kisses..rock them..soothe them..but its almost like she doesnt need me. I know that sounds dumb, but its just how I feel. I thought as her Mommy I would be able to provide her with a love and affection that she would only want from me, but apparently she is not that type of child. It makes me sad to know that she doenst want to cuddle with me or even sit on my lap for more than 1 minute without scooting to get away.

Does anyone else have a child like this? I would love to hear your experiences with them. Thanks!

My son is like this 100%. And he will rarely give me a kiss. He usually turns his head and shakes it (he used to give me kisses )

He is also 14 months (almost) and just very very independent. He will lay with me when I rock him to sleep, but doesn't want any part of cuddling. Once in a rare while..when he isn't feeling well or just sleepy will he sit on my lap and lay.

I don't worry about it...its his personality, and every kid is so different! I had a sister the SAME way...and the other sister was a total cuddler. Just the way it is. I can totally relate!!

My DD was like this from birth. She only started giving kisses but rarely. I will rock her to sleep still but she doesn't like to be cuddled or stroked. She will lay in my arms but only for the rocking.

I was so upset that she was like this and then I realized she was a lot like someone I know, ME! My DH jokes all the time that he had to teach me how to cuddle.

I figure she will only get more independent as time goes on so I don't expect much in this department. My niece is the opposite but is so clingy I am grateful sometimes that my DD isn't so needy.

Yes I can relate. I too am like this. I am not a cuddler at all. I dont like to be touched very often, it generally just annoys me, I have no idea why.

I just feel so sad that I feel like my baby doesnt need me for comfort. She wont even lay her head down on me when I hold her..even if shes EXHAUSTED. And its not because shes 14 months, because she was like this since birth. I know its her personality but it really makes me sad.

My daughter was completely like this. Honestly it wasn't until she was around 2ish that she would give kisses or let anyone hug her. It's just her nature. Now she is so much better at. She still is not a big fan of having her hair stroked and not a big cuddler but she will give hugs and kisses- on HER terms

Can TOTALLY relate..Christopher is like that. He doesnt get so excited to see us or aanyone like Matthew is the opposite, he wants your attention and affection. It really breaks my heart to see complete opposite personalities, or to think something is wrong

Noreen, this is exactly what Ava has been like her whole entire life, except that since she had that double ear infection in the end of August, she's been much more affectionate. And by much more, I mean that I get the occassional two second hug. I'll take it, I don't even care. I also have found that since we were in Florida for almost a week, she has been more willing to snuggle at bedtime with me because she slept inbetween us a couple of nights down there because she was scared.
Don't worry, she's probably just so confident and independent because you're doing such a great job as a mommy.

Ryan is like this. He is 21 months and hates to be held down or confined in any way, shape, or form. So when anyone tries to hug him, within 2 seconds he struggles to get loose. He does occasionally give kisses, and ALWAYS kisses his little sister, but not too often to me or DH. I wish he was more affectionate also. He will also only let me hold him and sit on my lap when we are watching cartoons together.

this happened to one of my friends twins and it turned out she had a sensory issue. my son too had some issues to with having his head touched, i couldnt even cut his hair let alone comb it. you should maybe mention it to the dr

DD was like this when I was nursing (up till almost 2 years old). She didn't want to sit on my lap or cuddle at all unless she was nursing. Now that we are done BFing she gives me smooches and hugs all the time.
