Is Your Home a Reflection of You?

I was just thinking about this in relation to my next door neighbor. DH and I rent, so I don't know if it really applies to us yet because there is little we can do around here.

My neighbor (a man in his 60's) and his daughter (in her 30's) are nice to everyone's faces but I hear them yelling and screaming and fighting with each other and screaming at their dog all the time when I'm in my yard. The front of their house is pretty and well kept but their back yard is a disaster. I've never been in their house, but they're appearance and dress is slobby.

I feel like their yards are a metafore for their personalities. Does this make any sense?

PS. They've livind in the house for 30 years.

Re: Is Your Home a Reflection of You?

my home is a reflection of my husband because he won't let me put any of my little trinkets around since they aren't asthetically pleasing Chat Icon but in all seriousness, i take pride in my home but i am also happy in life. i can see if i was miserable how i could let things go around the house but keep appearances up for the neighbors. that's sad that your neighbors live like that

Re: Is Your Home a Reflection of You?

yes our house is a reflection of us. All the rooms are cleaned up except for the office. I have to orangize the office, but I just think I don't like to go home and think about anymore office stuff after I leave my job. Chat Icon Otherwise our house and both the front and backyard are starting to reflect us. We are still working on landscape and our back deck. It will be where we want it over the next year probably.Chat Icon

Yes. The house is very mellow and informal, and alot of the rooms are decorated to be fun/themey (basement is navy/orange for DH's fav hockey team - Islanders). & We both love the water/beach, so we have alot of fun beachy/nautical decor. So that is totally us.

Yes, our home is casual, clean and bright. We are young, fun, casual people so I think our home definitely reflects us. We love the beach/outdoors as well so we have some "beachy" items around the house and lots of green plants.

yeah... i think so. we are very laid back, and so is the decorating, etc in our house. we also aren't really into putting on a "show" or appearances.. so our house isn't all perfectly decorated, like a showplace. its just comfortable, casual, and inviting...

Re: Is Your Home a Reflection of You?

Our house truly does reflect DH & I. I can say thay different aspects reflect one over the other. Our house is clean, organized & casual. I love the accent with vibrant colors & smells.

The outside of our house is definately a reflection of my husband. The brick work & stones are very stern, colorful yet calming. Our garden is a big reflection of me, open, vibrant, flowy yet subtle.

I think our home is definitely a reflection of us! Elements of traditional AND modern styles, kept up but not too high-maintenance... very much like our personalities Chat Icon

That's an interesting comparison you drew about your neighbors front and backyards - sad, but telling.

Re: Is Your Home a Reflection of You?

Yes and no. I would like my home to look every day the same way that it looks when the cleaning woman leaves. However, DH is so messy and unorganized that our apartment looks too messy most of the time. So, it's more of a reflection of him and not me.

I also do not necessarily love everything that is in our home. A lot of things were bought as a "compromise" because our tastes are somewhat different.

I also have not spent a lot of time "decorating". It's more that if I am out and see something I like (often when we travel!), I will buy it. But I don't really go shopping for "accessories" for my apartment. That is somewhat like myself because I don't really wear a lot of accessories - I keep the jewelry simple!

Uhm, barely decorated though I have good intentions of doing it? Yes, reflects me 100%! I never do my nails, take my time getting my hair trimmed and colored, though I want to do it, there is always something else that seems more pressing.

My garden is pretty good--would be better if there weren't so many mosquitos right now. I would say our yard looks better than our house mostly.
