It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
yesterday i posted that DS has been sleeping all his naps and over night sleep in his swing. I want to break this habit now and get his naps in the swing, but night time sleep in bassinet.
After this 9pm feed lst night, i swaddled him and down he went in the bassinet. Then came his midnight feed. Well... he wanted NOTHING to do w/ the bassinet. He'd fall asleep at my boob, and when i swaddled him, start to wake up. I ut him in the bassinet anyway and he went WILD. This continued all night. Eventually i gave up and put him in the swing bc i needed to sleep. And when he sleeps in swing, i sleep on the couch
Please help encourage me how to get hm to get into the bassinet for night

honestly, he is SO young, don't worry about it for now. My DS still spends alot of time in the swing and I move him to his crib once he is asleep, usually at 9pm
at this stage, just let him sleep where he is comfortable

Bassinet for EVERYTHING, naps included. It will take a few days and he will get the hint.

IMO ur DS is so young at this point any place where he will sleep, let him sleep there. u need ur sleep, especially since ur BFing. i think its too early for him to get into a habit.

ITA. At this age, I would just let him sleep in the swing. He is too young to form bad habits!!

I totally agree!
DD never slept in the swing at night, but if she didn't want to go back down in the PnP (PnP was next to our bed) after her middle of the night feedings I usually let her sleep on my chest. Once she was in a deep sleep i'd put her into the PnP and she'd usually stay sleeping.

My DD hated the bassinet. I put her in her crib from night two and she slept great.

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
If it's really important to you, he needs to get used to the bassinet, so I would put him in there for naps and bedtime.
However, what I found worked best for DS was to get a sleep positioner - I got the kind that cradles the baby, so they are slightly upright and feel like they are being held, or in a swing, and it's also got a heartbeat sound in it to soothe them.
Looks like this:
But like other posters said - he is just too young to develop bad habits, and you both need your sleep, so it's okay to let him nap and sleep wherever he wants.

Ditto. Alex slept in her swing for 5 months. Yael is 4 months and still sleeps in her FP rocker. I'm moving her in about a week to her crib.
I wouldn't stress about it - obviously he's not ready. Let him sleep where it's most comfortable for him. At this stage, it's really just about getting as much rest as you can, for both you and him.

I agree-- do whatever gets you both to sleep.
I would certainly start off in the crib/bassinett, but if he gets unhappy-- do whatever it takes to make him happy.
You have plenty of time to get him used to sleeping where you want him to be... maybe once he starts sleeping for longer stretches at night.

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
My DS slept in the swing until he was 5.5 months. We tried breaking him of the habit earlier, but it was too hard. He just wanted nothing to do with the crib.
Finally at 5.5 months we decided he was old enough to CIO.
Obviously your baby to to young to CIO, so I would personally let him sleep in the swing. However, you can also try swaddling him BEFORE you nurse him. This way when he falls asleep, you are not disturbing him to swaddle. He will fall asleep swaddled and then you can try placing him in the bassinet. Also, if you don't already, you might want to try using a pacifier.

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
In my opinion it is not too early to try, I would just keep trying, it may take a few days but like (I think it was Jenn) said he will get the hint. I personally had my DS in the crib at 3 weeks. I did not want to deal with transitioning him at a few months old.

Us too...DD HATED her bassinet. She screamed the whole first night every time we tried to put her down. We tried the crib the 2nd night and she slept 3-4 hour stretches.
I would let him sleep wherever just so you and him can get some sleep. It's too early to form bad habits.

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
I wouldn't worry about the swing for naps throughout the day.
For the nighttime I always tried really hard to keep them in the bassinet because it was just easier for me (right next to me) and I thought in my head it would make the crib transition easier.
Both boys hated the bassinet until I put the sleep positioner in. Now Tyler goes down without so much as a peep! I love the inclinded positioner (although I've never seen the one LB posted and that looks pretty damn cool too!)

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
Don't worry! My DS hates his bassinet! He now sleeps in the pnp but if he is fussy I let him sleep wherever. Sometimes in the swing at night sometimes on my chest for a little while. My hubby and I take turns on the coach!I figured once he starts sleeping more I will really make the transition to the crib, but right now he is still up every 2-3 hours. You should also try putting him down for naps in his crib so he gets used to it (I do this and although my baby doesn't always fall asleep in there for a nap he loves his crib and mobile and sometimes does) I figured this will make the "big" transition easier!

Do what you gotta do to get some sleep, hon! Riley slept in our bed for a few weeks very early on and she hasn't done it since, so you don't have to worry about habits forming just yet.

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
please don't worry about breaking habits now... you JUST had him...
my son slept in his little vibrating bouncy seat for MONTHS...
whatever got him down... trust me, he is not learning *habits* this young...
you'll figure out a routine, but for now... just hold him, hold him hold him if you feel like it...

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
DD's been sleeping primarily in the swing. Last night was our night to get her used to the crib which is in our room...I made a positioner out of the boppy so she still felt snuggled in... put a blanket over it so she wouldn't slip or slide during the night....swaddled her with another blanket and she slept fabulous.
I agree with everyone that he's still too young to worry about it...but for me..I wanted to get her into the crib ASAP.
Sleep positioner would definitely help i think. I have the one LB posted, but I'm not using it
She's still napping in the swing though. Attempting the crib, but she's not having it for naps right now.

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
If he sleeps well in the swing, why not just let him sleep there? There's no rule that your LO has to sleep in a bassinet or crib right away. DD currently sleeps in her bouncy, swing, or rocker. DS used to sleep in his car seat for almost 5 months. Once he was ready for the crib, we moved him there with no problems. We plan to do the same with DD as well. I wouldn't worry!

Re: It didnt go too well...any thoughts?
I wouldn't worry about where he sleeps at this point, you both just need sleep! DS didn't sleep in his crib until 4 months. I tried a few times to get him to sleep in it and he would just cry endlessly. I asked the Dr. about it, she said not to worry DS would let us know when he didn't want to sleep upright anymore.
...wouldn't you know about a week later he started wiggling when I put him down to sleep at first I thought it was cute, that he was snuggling into sleep, then I realized he was uncomfortable. So I took him out, put him in his crib and he has been there ever since.
