it happened a SECOND TIME!
My credit has been hijacked a SECOND TIME! Someone stole my credit card # and bought $200 in gas in FL 2 months ago.... This time, someone in CA hacked into my ebay and paypal accounts and tried to purchase $12k in electronics mercifully, none of the charges went through.
I already have a fraud alert at the credit agencies from the 1st incident. I already started the ball rolling getting ebay, paypal, my bank, and my credit card company investigating this incident and changed all passwords. I also registered for a credit protection program.
I'm so pizzed.... How do they keep getting my info? DH and I are paranoid now. I never let my laptop roam on public wireless set-ups, I obviously don't tell people my passwords... did someone hack our home wireless? did I get one of those key stroke recording viruses? (I have a rockin' firewall and good antivirus/spyware) I also haven't used my ebay acct in months!
argh. did these serial assaults ever happen to you? did you ever find out how it got started?

Re: it happened a SECOND TIME!
yeah, I always log-out and close the browser too....
I suspect I either have a virus, or that my info was hacked directly from the website
I should add the credit card I had linked to paypal was NOT the same one that was hijacked 2 months ago.... I really think someone seriously dug-up my info and sold it

Very possible. I would have somebody back up your data and wipe your home PC clean.
That is just too often a coincidence.

Re: it happened a SECOND TIME!
yeah, DH and I discussed that this morning I'd like to avoid that, but I'll do it if I have to
while I debate these things, I'm not accessing any of my finances with my computer.... all the passwords were changed on a different computer

Re: it happened a SECOND TIME!
Try downloading AVG Free Virus program and Spybot or AdAware to counter against possible browser viruses.
You don't have to wipe your computer clean, but you do want to make sure all possible viruses are eliminated.
Good luck!

Re: it happened a SECOND TIME!
I know at the bank where I work at, some of our Visa's got compromised somehow and all the charges were at gas stations in Florida. I know we have restricted use of the credit cards at all gas pumps that you have to see an attendant to swipe your card and if you go outside a 50 mile radius of where you live you can't use it.

Re: it happened a SECOND TIME!
I had this happen to me about 3 or 4 years ago. $200 in gas charged on my American Express Blue card. When I called Amex they told me the card was swiped. The card was in my wallet. I told them I had not been to Florida in years and I never use that card for gas. They removed it and issued me a new card, but wow, scary!

Re: it happened a SECOND TIME!
not sure if you remember my paypal issues about a month ago
I had $6K in charges to my Amex - thru paypal
Paypal thinks that my computer was infected with a keystroke virus
so I would change my password- and they would be able to tell
I cleaned my computer and installed a few programs
so far- so good
but I check it all the time
they also might have gotten caught- b/c I went to pay for something at the post office with my paypal card- knowing I had money in there
and it was declined
so I ran home and checked
sure enough they had just bought a laptop
I caught it before it shipped
but the seller and paypal were up to something- no one would tell me- but I assume the police were invloved

Re: it happened a SECOND TIME!
I had that happen thru paypal too, a lot of little charges I just cancelled the card that was attached to that account, but now its hard to buy anything on ebay because I don't want to attach a card to my account
