It is starting already!
Last year Emily gave us such a hard time waking up in the morning for school. She would refuse to get out of bed and just want to lay around all morning instead of getting dressed and getting ready.
It made mornings very difficult!
Well, it is starting already this school year! And we are only a week and a half in! This morning I got so frustrated because it took 20 minutes for her to just get out of bed!
She is going to bed at around 8:30 and with homework, dinner, showers, the nebulizer (she is asthmatic), I can't imagine being able to get her to bed any earlier then that!
Is anyone going through this with their kids? Any tips? Will it be like this forever until I send her off to college? It really drives me crazy!!!

ME! But Megan is HARD when it comes to EVERYTHING in the morning. It doesn't help that she doesn't "love" school. I wake her 10 minutes before she actually has to get up. I go back up 10 minutes later and it's all about speaking nicely, making jokes, laying with her, coaxing her..until I cannot take it anymore and wind up losing my patience. Then she comes downstairs and lays on the couch forever. She claims shes cold (I cannot imagine the Winter), not hungry, says her legs hurt. Its A NIGHTMARE! I feel for you!!

Oh my gosh, that sounds exactly like Emily!
She complains that she is cold also! The best I can think is that she was all warm and cozy under her blankets and now she's out and about in the house ...
We try to not put the TV on. We will put on her playlist on the ipod to get some of her favorite tunes going to get her moving.
We tried all different combinations of getting her ready. Breakfast first, getting dressed first, etc.
And while she does LIKE school, she is another one that doesn't LOVE it and some days complains that it's just way too exhausting.
I just don't want to be going into another school year like this! I was kinda hoping that with her being a year older this year, maybe it would be easier!

Re: It is starting already!
I'm not a morning person so I feel her pain. I also have a grump in the morning too. to the point the teachers commented that my kid is often in a bad mood in the morning & takes awhile to get started. I told them I suspected she's going to be the adult that you can't talk to unless she has coffee.
Other than making a game of it, dressing her in her sleep (BTDT), encouraging and positive reinforcement, I'm out of ideas.
This morning my grump was up ready, dressed & smiling. The compliments alone about how grown up she's getting, how proud I am of her were enough that I suspect she'll be like that all week.
I do know you do get more from positives than negatives. Let her overhear you talking about a good morning, etc.

Re: It is starting already!
One thing that helped for about a minute (well, maybe a week or so) last year was taking her to Target, letting her pick out a simple alarm clock, explaining that that is how Mom & Dad and big people wake up, and showing her how to push the button over to "set" it at night, and then turn the botton off in the AM to wake up.
For about a week last school year we would have this proud girl coming down the stairs at 7:15, all excited that she woke up on her own with her alarm clock.
Well, it was a great week. UNTIL...she discovered that she could hit the button to turn it off and then crawl back under the covers again!

This made me for real LOL!!
My boys have lazy days but overall they are okay with getting up. We DID go through a bad bought of "Idontwannagetup-itis" at one point.. which is why we introduced morning reward system. IF they get dressed, eat, brush their teeth and are 100% ready to walk out the door - they can watch a little tv or I will read a chapter from whatever book we are currently reading together or I will stop at Starbucks before we leave or I'll let them have a bag of fruit snacks.. you get the gist. Just some small motivator. If they are slow getting up or arguing instead of eating I can just say "Okay.. I guess we won't have time to stop at Buckets today.." and suddenly they are focused!
