It's been a rough week and now I am worried about the baby

Hi ladies, This past week has been very rough for me as I have to watch as a close family member passed away. I have spent numerous entire days in the hospital and have had a lot of trouble sleeping. Now the family member has passed away and I have the services and everything else coming up.

I have been emotionally devastated as this has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through. But in the back of my mind I have been so worried as to the effect this may be having on my baby. I am 27 weeks and so worried that all this stress, exhaustion and sadness - not to mention the uncontrollable sobbing - has harmed the baby.

I guess I am just looking for reassurance that someone else or someone you know had gone through a difficult time when pg and the baby ended up fine. Chat Icon Thank you.

Please don't worry about the stress. I dealt with my final semester of graduate school ( the testing was unbelieveable), selling our house, and moving, as well as many panic attacks throughout my third trimester.

My doctor told me NOT to worry. She also said there was a study published recently that provided evidence that moderate stress in PG can actually be beneficial to the baby.

My Grandfather passed away 2 months ago and although I was still early it was really hard for me. My entire family was flying in from all over, I was the only one who could be with my Grandmother that night!

I made all the arrangement with my mom and made all the catering arrangements etc. It was stressful & sad to say the least.

I was worried about affecting the baby being so upset, depressed, angry, stressed etc.

What I can offer are Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . It will get better.. Your emotions I mean.
I still cry at times but as long as you are processing your feelings you and the baby will be fine.

Don't forget to eat, drink your fluids & take care of yourself. Try to get some sleep, nap if you can and be comforted by your friends and family!!!Chat Icon

My friend recently lost her mother to cancer while in her third trimester. While she knew it was going to happen, the loss was, obviously, devestating to her. Her body suffered a bit, as the stress brought on some minor contractions, but with careful monitoring and a lot of support from loved ones, the baby was not harmed at all.

I am so sorry for your loss. As my doctors told me, mommy suffers and baby takes what it needs. As I was going into my 20th week we had a death of a friend. As we were leaving that funeral, our phone rang and we were told a family member had passed. We were numb. I have been to the doctor numerous times since and the baby is fine. My prayers are with you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: It's been a rough week and now I am worried about the baby

I was in and out of hospitals during my pregancy for various stressful reasons and my baby was okay.

Also, we bought a condo and moved in during my pregnancy --this was all verey stressful and physically crazy, but my baby seems okay

Re: It's been a rough week and now I am worried about the baby

My grandmother just passed away last week - I was 37 weeks pregnant. It was def. exhausting and at the end of each day I didn't know if I would even make it up the stairs to get to bed. Since I was standing for basically two days straight my feet and ankles were TREMENDOUS! My family kept wanting me to go home early but I knew I had to suck it up for the two days or I wouldn't forgive myself.

I am more at peace with this now though, because in the back of my mind I was so worried that my grandmother would die just as I was having the baby (or vice versa)

I'm sorry you are going through this - try to take it one day at a time and you will be ok! Chat Icon
