Its official his leg was broken....my little guy is in a cast.
So we FINALLY found an ortho who could/would see him, Dr Finuolis office in Smithtown, after 3 days of trying to find an ortho who either took our insurance, would see a pedi case and/or wasnt booked.
I as a last ditch effort called this office and the PA went above and beyond after I begged for them to please see DS bc he could have been walking around with a broken leg for 3 days. She immediately pulled up his XRay from St Cats while just on the phone with me, and then called the Dr to confirm the break that she saw. All before we were even patients and FOR FREE! She said we dont normally do pedi cases but she feels so bad for us that she would take him.
Needless to say, his knee was fractured, but not too badly. She was more concerned with wanting to immobilize it, so he couldnt make it worse. So the little guy is in a cast to about mid-thigh. Its for 3 weeks and he seems to be OK with it. He thought it was the funniest thing when they were putting the "big sock" on him at the Drs.
Im glad to finally have answers, but am disgusted with the ER care and the fact that NO ONE would or could see a toddler walking around with a broken leg. I have been on the phone 24/7 with Drs/Peds office/Insurance....it shouldnt be that hard and it shouldnt have taken 3 days for someone to be able to help him.

I can't believe no one saw this in the first place! I'm sorry you had to deal with so much ontop of DS having a broken leg. Thankfully he is in the cast now and can heal properly!

awww your poor little man ~ Happy to hear you finally got the answer ~ I can't beleive how hard it is to get an appt and the sad thing he has had this broken for a couple of days!! Poor little guy! I wish him a speedy recovery!

I HAAAATE st catherines 
the ER there leaves so much to be desired- and it's been the same for years. They missed a BRAIN BLEED when DH was 13! TWICE!!!!

OMG! I'm so sorry about poor little Eddie!  I hope these 3 weeks go very fast for you guys. I know you're busy with taking care of your little guy right now, but when you have a chance... PLEASE write a letter to St. Catherine's HR Dept. complaining about the lack of expertise and professionalism in their ER. Your poor baby had to suffer for too long!!

Aww, poor little guy!
I have to say, I broke my leg when I was 18 months and was in a toe to hip plaster cast for 8 weeks. I obviously don't remember it but everyone says I looked cute and it didn't stop me in any way from getting around.
Two little stories about my experience:
1. My parents were afraid to tell my grandparents about it so they didn't take any pictures of me in my cast for fear that they would find out!  (they lived in Florida and we lived in NY) - be sure to take lots of pictures!!!
2. My cast was plaster, not at all like the ones today. The doctor was too afraid to use the saw to remove it because I was so little so my dad had to do it in the kitchen sink by soaking me and using whatever tools he had around the house  . Yeah, why do I think that would no longer fly!
