It's Official: JLo Is Having Twins
Break out the matching onesies! Jennifer López will have not one, but two babies! The singer's father, David López, has announced that his daughter is having twins.
"Yes, twins. The thing is in my family, my sister also had twins, so it's a hereditary thing," the grandpa-to-be said in an interview on the show Escándalo TV (Telefutura). When asked how he felt about the big news, López expressed his happiness for his famous daughter. "I'm very proud. Jennifer has yearned to be a mother for many years," he said.
With the 38-year-old singer's due date getting closer and closer, her dad says he already has gifts ready for the babies. "In Puerto Rico it's custom to buy an azabache [black stone] bracelet for babies to protect them from the evil eye, it's part of our culture," he explained. What Mr. López didn't reveal was the sex of the babies, but we'll find out soon enough.

Twins might run in the family but I think most of the time the twins are then identical. And the fact that she did go through IVF would also put her at a higher chance of having twins. So I don't think they can just say hey it runs in the family so that's why.

Who cares whether she's having twins because of genetics or IVF? If he wants to think it's a family thing, then let him have that. I'm so excited for her!!!

Good for them
I'm pretty sure they did IVF too. However believe it or not there is still a stigma regarding IF especially in the Hispanic culture so I'm guessing that is why her father made that statement. Regardless of the fact its' their business whether or not they did IVF and they shouldn't have to share. Babies are a blessing no matter how they came to be

I concur. There have been 5 sets of fraternal twins in the past 5 generations on my mother's side of the family.

Dad may not realize that the twins are because of IVF. He may not know that she had it or he might not be aware that it increases the odds of twins. He probably really believes what he said-that it runs in the family. Anyway, who cares. Twins are a blessing and I am very happy for them.

Thank you! She has been open about her fertility issues in the past, I dont' understand why they are coming off like IVF is a negative thing. they are having 2 gorgeous and (hopefully) healthy babies. come on now!

my sister is a ped doctor at North Shore and one of her collegues who works in maternity said J-Lo was there getting checked out last week, but she's not due until the end of March or beginnng of April

Agreed... all the twins in my family and in FH's family (and FH himself... he has a twin sister) are all fraternal.

He probably said it so it would seem like it was natural, like celebrities can't have fertility issues and speak about it.
Afterall, they are immune to any and all health issues you know......

Wow, I'm surprised at people's reactions. Maybe he feels like it's not his place to discuss her medical history. I'd be pretty pizzed if my parents were blabbing my personal details to strangers.

Good for her...I am happy for her....
She did do IVF and it was on her third try when it worked...she had previously 2 failed cycles....
She had it done at Cedar-Sinai hospital in LA...it has been confirmed...

I think what her dad said was valid. If J Lo's paternal aunt had twins, J Lo's father could have passed down the genetic components for twins (releasing multiple eggs) to J Lo. I don't think a person's likelihood of having twins only comes from her mother's side of the family. Whether or not Marc Anthony has twins on his side of the family has no effect on the likelihood of J Lo having twins.
Of course, if she had IVF, none of this matters.

I would be too but my feeling is why say anything at all if she did have IVF. Just say it's twins. No need to couch it as hereditary.
