IUI and HCG Shot
hello ladies,
I am gearing up this month we are going to do our first IUI. I start Clomid on Friday taking two pills in the morning for 5 Days, they then told me to come in for monitoring starting on day 12. I was just wondering does everyone get the HCG shot what exactly is it? Thank you for your help.

Re: IUI and HCG Shot
Ask your dr for the prescription now so u can be sure to get it in time. I think most people use Ovidrel but some drs may use a different brand. CVS usually has it in stock, but it's better to get and drop off the prescription now.
Basically, the trigger shot forces ovulation so they know when to time the IUI's. It is a tiny, tiny shot that you do in the belly. It doesn't hurt!

Re: IUI and HCG Shot
The doctor will often give you the trigger shot ( hcg) to help have control over when the egg drops so that IUI can be scheduled 24-36 hours following ( or something like that )..
My RE's office did the trigger shot for me ( in the back of my arm)...I think each office has their own protocol

Re: IUI and HCG Shot
I had 3 iui and only one with a hcg shot. If you end up ovulating on your own they won't get it to you.

Re: IUI and HCG Shot
It helps with the timing of the IUI: I ovulate on my own & took a trigger each time, so that timing was "perfect."
That being said... you have quite some time after hormone surge to do the IUI, so it probably works well either way.
