IUI cancelled
My first IUI was cancelled today because of my TSH level, which is 3.6 (down from 4.1). I'm so disappointed. I had no idea this was a possibility. My RE is out this week but when I met with her last we discussed how she wanted it lower (on synthroid) but encouraged us to try last cycle after hsg and planned in IUI this cycle with no condition re: my tsh. I saw another RE in the practice today for my first monitoring and she said no IUI and I can't try naturally either due to risk of miscarriage. Has this happened to anyone? I know my TSH is elevated but from what I read the risk isn't that high given my levels. i didn't get to speak to covering dr this afternoon after getting my results so I will call in morning but wanted to hear other experiences.

IUI cancelled
Normal TSH range levels are between 0.3 and 3.0. Many practitioner, especially fertility doctors and pregnancy are concerned, prefer to see TSH levels less than 2 because of miscarriage risk.

I know that it should be lower but I am just surprised my IUI was cancelled because of it and I can't try naturally. My RE never indicated that was a possibility. She told me it wasn't ideal and wanted it below 2 or 2.5 but encouraged me to try naturally and scheduled the IUI knowing it was elevated. The covering RE is the one who made the call to cancel it and I'm just not sure if it's common to canc for that reason.

Its common. I had a mix up one time where mine was elevated and they would not do anything until it was lowered.

Sorry....I'm sure it's a big disappointment especially since now you have to wait again. This is going to be a silly question but since I'm new to all of this (only had first RE appointment last week) -- what is TSH level? Trying to get up to speed on all the thins I should be starting to know and/or ask my RE.

Thyroid Stumulating Hormone. REs want it to be below 2.5 (or 2 depending one the dr) even though "normal" is considered below 5. Recent research has shown an increase in miscarriage when above 2.5.
