IUI injectibles question
So I went for my day 2 bloodwork and ultrasound this morning for IUI #4. The doctor said that I would do another round of Clomid, same as the last 3 times. I asked if there was anything more "agressive" we could do and he mentioned the injectibles. I signed up for a class next week on how to do them, etc...but I'm confused on whether this would really help my situation since I have no problem with ovulation. DH has fluctuated on his results, sometimes his motility is borderline.... but I don't want to spend tons of $$ if these injectibles won't help the situtation. My question basically is: Why take injectibles over clomid? Is this worth it or should we move onto IVF?

Re: IUI injectibles question
I really wouldn't bother, honestly. It does give you more eggs but they're not going to give you enough to make you produce a ton of eggs liek they would with IVF. Too risky with IUI. I say continue the Clomid route unless you want to see how you respond to injectibles if you decide to go IVF.

Re: IUI injectibles question
My insurance covered 6 rounds of IUI's, so I decided to use them all before taking on the expense of IVF.
I did 3 rounds of chlomid that failed...and I too asked if there was something more aggressive before moving onto IVF. I was told that injectibles have a slightly higher success rate because they control the ovulation better and I was monitored very closely. I did 2 rounds of injectibles and I got PG on the second round (5th IUI cycle in total).
To me...I felt like I had more control with the injectibles, even if it was my own made up way of dealing wtih the whole IF journey. Good luck

This is true, but even on my Clomid cycles I did Ovidrel to induce ovulation. So I think it was pretty well controlled. You can do Ovidrel with Clomid as well as doing it with something like Gonal F or Follistim. But you're definitely right, induced ovulation definitely has a much higher success rate.
Maybe you can ask if you can do a Clomid/Ovidrel or Clomid/HCG trigger cycle? I don't think Ovidrel is too expensive ($75 w/o insurance). And if your insurance company covers IUIs and Clomid, if you're doing Ovidrel with an IUI cycle, they should definitely cover that cost.

Re: IUI injectibles question
I could have written both your post and luvsuns.
We also had male factor issues more so than me, and I did three rounds with clomid that failed.
I also asked about injectables after the third round of clomid and I was put on follistum. The first round didn't work, but the second resulted in a bfp. So that's 5 iui's in total before my bfp.
I would at least try a round of injectables to see how you react. My Dr. recommended that we tried two rounds before going to IVF, and I was only going to do the one, but someone donated the meds for my last cycle to me. The medication is much less expensive than IVF, and I can only speak from my own experience, but I say to at least give it a try for one cycle.
Hang in there!!

Re: IUI injectibles question
My insurance doesn't cover anything except the bloodwork and the ultrasounds. They don't even cover the Clomid. Thanks for the help...I'll see how this month goes. Last month I did Clomid with the trigger shot. It is so hard explaining all this to DH. He thinks the doctors aren't doing enough, like they want the IUIS to fail so that we can spend more money. If this one doesn't work I'm not sure how willing he will be to do another.

Re: IUI injectibles question
My insurance did not cover Clomid or injectibles. To be honest, the injections only gave me 2 - 3 more eggs than the clomid but the follistim gave me cysts on my ovaries and I would have to wait a month in between. I stayed with the Clomid since I was not really having issues with ovulating, just that one of my tubes was blocked
