IUI question
So my husband and I have been TTC for 18 months now we've done all our testing and have seen urology apparently there is nothing wrong with either of us. The urologist recommended we start with iui as road to ivf possibly. I am seeing my dr at li ivf this Friday to discuss going ahead with iui. I ovulate in 2.5 weeks I'm wondering if you think I'll be ready to start by then? is there any reason I would need to wait til next cycle to start? I'm just not sure of the procedure like all the specifics of it.
For the procedure when do they have u drop off the semen? Can u work the same day? Just wondering the details.
Thanks ladies!

IUI question
If you are doing a natural cycle (meaning you aren't taking meds) then I don't see a reason why you can't do an IUI this cycle. You ovulate in 2.5 weeks? So your period hasn't started then, right? Your RE will start monitoring you around CD 8. When your follicles are mature, you will get the HCG trigger shot and most likely, IUI will be the next day.
I never dropped off semen. DH always produced there. I heard that to drop it off, it has to be less than 1 hour old. For us, it's too risky to try to drop it of. And yes, you can work the same day as the IUI. I've done it in the morning and went straight to work. It's fairly painless.

Re: IUI question
Thanks for the info! I actually just started my period I typically get my lh surge 18 days after my cd1. I'm excited to start iui I don't think it will work necessarily I'm just excited to be moving forward in TTC versus just keep TTC naturally.

Re: IUI question
I've done 4 IUI's total (im in the 2 WW now on the 4th one); the first one conceived DS first try in 2009
I did clomid with a trigger on day 13, IUI on day 14.
The IUIS for me a little uncomfortable b/c my uterus is tipped far back and puts my cervix in a weird spot so it takes a bit of maneuvering. annoying but not terrible. This last IUI was extremely painful b/c seminal fluid got into my uterus. But thats partially b/c my DH's sample had such a high count. Thats usually not the norm to happen.
I went about my normal day after the 3 IUIs; this last one I had to go home and rest b/c the cramping was really bad.

Re: IUI question
Do you mind if I ask why you did clomid? Why do they do it with some people and not others?

Re: IUI question
to increase my chances of success.
its supposed to force ovulation by day 14. Im not sure how true that is. but they can probably time the IUI better by using it.

IUI question
I was fine after my iui's too. DH always brought his sample with him with no problem. I also tried Clomid but it never worked for me and went on to Gonal-F with IUI and got pg with that. Always remember that everyones experience is different.

Re: IUI question
Your DH can drop off the sample if that is what he's comfortable with. As long as the sample is given to the lab within an hour, it is fine. My DH preferred to come with me, so he would produce at the office.
You'll be fine to go to work after, it's like getting a pap smear. You may have a little discomfort when they insert the catheter (I do). After the insemination, you lay on the table with your legs propped up for 10-15 minutes, and then you're on your way. Very simple and easy.
When I first had an IUI, I was given clomid to stimulate follicle growth. Ultimately I switched to injectables because I was not producing enough follicles with clomid alone. Always took a trigger shot because I would not ovulate on my own. My only every BFP was with a combination of clomid/follistim/trigger/IUI (ended in a chemical)
