IUI's vs IVF Need your girls honest opinions...
Hey Girls,
I haven't been on in a while but I still try to keep up with some of your stories, so many new girls here too!
I do have a few questions...
My DH and I have genetic traits that when they match up can be harmful to our child...
Now... this is the kicker... we have a 75% chance of the child being perfectly fine, but there is a 25% chance of the child being sick... which is not huge but its there.
Many of the Dr's I have seen have told my DH and I to just try naturally and see what happens, about 4 Drs, only 1 really pushed us for IVF... so we can genetically test the embryos first.
So... After 9 months of trying and nothing... and my emotional basket-case self 3 times canceling my RE appt... my DH and I finally went to an RE and got a really good vibe... so we are pretty excited... but also worried and confused at the same time.
I guess our question is... what would you do???
I know everyone is different... but I would like to get other ladies opinions that are in this type of situation if any...
Also... I would like to know, How many IUI's has it taken some of you to get pregnant, or for those who aren't yet... how many have you had that hadn't worked?
Thanks girls, and my DH and I are always praying for you.
****ETA----
There are a few more things I forgot to post originally...
We can test at 10 wks with a CVS test (before an amnio) to see if the baby is sick... thats pretty early, and then I guess we would have to decide how we wanted to proceed
Also... I have had Fibroid Tumors removed and have had major surgeries to remove them, when I went for my sono they saw another another one growing and I am afraid the IVF hormones will increase the tumors again...
1 more thing... I have unlimited IUI's covered on insurance and very imited coverage for IVF... so I also feel that if I go through all the IVF and what happens if it doesn't stick... ya know?
This is why I am so confused...
Sorry If I left that out of the original post...

I'm not sure what issues you have or what other factors are in play, but since it hasn't been so easy for you to get pregnant and you are seeing an RE, I would skip the IUI and go for the IVF with PGD for my own peace of mind. That 25% chance would be in the back of my mind throughout the whole pregnancy if I had gone with natural or IUI. I'm sorry you are finding yourself in this position and I hope you are able to make the choice that you are comfortable with

I would do IVF with PGD if I were in your situation.

IMO a 1/4 chance is pretty high and I would not risk it. IVF with PGD for sure!

k... There are a few more things I forgot to post originally...
We can test at 10 wks with a CVS test (before an amnio) to see if the baby is sick... thats pretty early, so I wouldn't have to stress the entire pregnancy.
Also... I have had Fibroid Tumors removed and have had major surgeries to remove them, when I went for my sono they saw another another one growing and I am afraid the IVF hormones will increase the tumors again...
1 more then... I have unlimited IUI's covered on insurance and only limited coverage for IVF... so I also feel that if I go through all the IVF and what happens if it doesn't stick... ya know?
Sorry If I left that out of the original post... I just added it...

I agree with this. JMO but 10 weeks is still 1/4 of the way through a pregnancy. To be faced with such a decision would be heartbreaking, if you can avoid it with PGD/IVF I would.

I have to agree...
I agree with the others.. Its a significant chance. Why risk it if you have a way to know before hand?

Re: IUI's vs IVF Need your girls honest opinions...
I agree with all. I would go for IVF and PGD to have peace of mind. A friend of mine has a daughter with CF and they didn't know they were carriers. Plus I have genetic diseases too running through my DNA. If my DH had the same ones I know I would be doing the same thing. It's too hard to get PG at this point and I dont' know how I would handle it if something was wrong. Good luck with your decision.

Re: IUI's vs IVF Need your girls honest opinions...
I'm actually having a similiar situation where 25% of the time if I get pregnant I can have a child with problems.
I have done IVF with PGD twice now. Once I had one genetically normal embryo and once I had NONE. My insurance doesn't cover PGD and all that money was out the window. PGD is VERY costly (was costing me $7K each time).
I am now back to doing IUIs and winging it.
FM me if you have any questions
