I've gained 12 pounds in 20 weeks...
...and my dr. told me it is too much! He said I should have only gained 10 pounds and then he was giving me advice on how I can "shave" off two pounds...
ummmmmm...I thought we weren't supposed to diet or lose weight during pregnancy...
...is 2 pounds really that big of a deal? I was never overweight in my life, always very slim so this is really bothering me!!!

Honestly, I think that's crazy that he's giving you a hard time over 12lbs...ESPECIALLY given you have always been thin.
I have always been thin too - size 4 when I got pg, and at 22 weeks, have gained almost 17lbs and my doc hasn't said a word. I would hate to see what your doc would say to me

Are you kidding?!!??!?!!? I've gained roughly 11 pounds in 20 weeks and my dr has said nothing, he also doesn't know where it's gone bc i'm not belly and I don't look heavier anywhere else, except in my boobs, but those are out of control in general ..what an idiot....I was normal to begin with too...tell ur doctor that maybe he should lose a few himself!!!!!

these dr's make me nuts! as long as you feel healthy..tell him to get over it. not to mention, you're going to lose and gain throughout your pregnancy anyway. some is water weight, some may be salt retention, he needs to chill out.

I think your doctor is crazy. If you gained another 12 pounds in your remaining 20 weeks you will have gained less than half of what I did and 10 lbs less than my doctor recommends.

Wow. I had gained about 20lbs at 20 weeks and my Dr. said it was fine. I really wouldn't worry about it at all.

OMG THAT IS CRAZY!
I wouldnt try to lose weight... if anything just watch your intake from here on out to make sure you are gaining at a steady pace.

I think that's crazy! at 20 weeks I was up 18lbs and my doc said nothing! I have a very small belly-My boobs and butt have gotten huge!

I gained 16 by 20 weeks and nothing was ever said about it. My theory is that my body will gain or loose whatever I need. I am not worrying so much about it. I eat when im hungry and stop when full.

Are you serious!!!! I was up 15/16 lbs at 20/21 weeks and yes I was concerned to see the scale go into a territory I've never seen before but my nurse and doctor assured me it was perfectly FINE! I can't believe your doctor. My doctor said I can gain a little more because of my prepregnancy size. I am not pigging out or anything and all my weight has gone straight to my tummy (pics in album). Do not stress over it! I'm going on 24 weeks and I"m sure I'm up a couple more pounds now.

WHAT??? i gained well over 12 lbs in 20 weeks... i must have been up at least 16 or 20 lbs at that point. your doctor is CRAZY especially since you are so thin. i ate like crap and i still am only up 30 lbs at 35 weeks - which my doctor said is well within range for me since i was a normal weight to begin with.
unless all you eat is cake and ice cream you can't help what your body gains.
tell your dr to go scratch

Me too-one question-is your Dr old? Years ago Dr's were much more concerned with weight gain than now.

if you were heavy (like me) I would understand the concern, but it's crazy to even voice concern about such moderate weight gain to a mom who was so thin to start! after all, you're supposed to gain about 35 lbs!
I'd politely ignore it

My dr had me on weight management plans by 20 weeks. I was up 40 pounds.
Walked 3 miles a day....went to gym for stationary bike till 8 mos pregnant.
total gain was a little over 60 pounds. by 6 weeks pp, all but 50 was off.
They made me absolutely crazy. I had to get weighed in every 2 weeks at the office.

For a Dr. to be lecturing you because you're "2 lbs. overweight" is absolutely ludicrous.
Just keep an eye on it from now on, and you'll be totally fine. Now that I'm getting my appetite back, I'm watching REALLY closely because normally I can gain about 5lbs. from one piece of birthday cake.

That seems crazy!!! I was up 10 lbs at my 19 week and probably up 11 lbs now at 20 weeks. My doctor said that was perfect. Don't stress it!!!

During my latest pregnancy I gained 12 pounds in one MONTH (a total of 45 pounds) and my doctor laughed and said nothing about it! Enjoy your pregnancy and your appetite!!! Unless your blood pressure is up or your glucose...there should be no concerns!
