I've had ringing in my ears (tinnitus) for 5 weeks now...just a vent
it might even be 6 weeks I think I lost count.
I have been to two ENT's and my regular dr and they have no idea why I have it. I have NO hearing loss (which is almost always what tinnitus is associated with). My hearing is actually perfect. My regular dr did a whole bunch of blood work (sometimes things like a thyroid problem can cause it) and of course, nothing except my vitamin D is low One ENT is blaming it on TMJ said he couldnt find the cause. I've had TMJ for 15 years and never had ringing from it.
When the audiologist was checking my hearing when it first started she said how its incredibly rare for a person to have tinnitus with no hearing loss or other cause...looks like I'm one of those incredibly rare cases
This started EXACTLY 5 hours after I went under anesthesia for an endoscopy. I can't help but think it is somehow connected. One ENT said no, the other said anything is possible....thanks guy
None of my doctors think it is permanent although they cant find a cause and told me they have no idea when it will go away after 5-6 weeks it seems pretty permanent to me. It doesnt bother me so much during the day when I'm busy and not focusing on it but at night when I try to sleep I want to bang my head against the wall. When I wake up in the morning it's pretty low but by the end of the day and all the noise from my kids it's pretty loud.
I just needed to vent.

so sorry you have this!!! I'd also suspect something to do with the endo. I mean, thats a pretty big coincidence!
Any vertigo?
I'm a fan of the NYU clinics, i'd go to one of their ent's.

Don't know if you are on SSRI's (antidepressents) but they definitely did that to me (in fact stress alone can cause tinnitus). No lexapro= no ear ringing

I have taken paxil off and on for years but havent taken it in over a year. And during all the time I took it I never got ringing so I dont think it's related to that.
There are a bunch of ototoxic drugs (I looked through the list ) and the only other thing I took that can cause ringing is pepto-bismol for my stomach. But it should have gone away once I stopped taking it if that were the cause.

Occasional dizziness that lasts a few seconds but neither ENT seemed to think that mattered.
I'm supposed to go for an MRI because I get migraines. But I put it off because I am nervous the contrast they are going to use will make it worse or the noise from the machine

Do you have allergies? Sometimes when your ears have fluid in them, you can hear a ringing in your ears. This happens to me all the time when my sinuses are bothering me. I take a few sudafed and it's all good from there. Also, some people can be super sensitive to the sound of their central nervous system and blood flow. Both cause a high pitched tone.

Hmm, so it's not that then...Hope it goes away soon, how annoying!

NYU has a Vestibular clinic and some of the best ENTs around. I'd look into it

I have no fluid in my ears but on ENT said because I have horrible allergies it can cause eustacian tube dysfunction (I'm congested in my nasal and sinus passages which blocks the eustacian tube). I think that may have been a cop-out.
I have bad anxiety. I read it could be that too Thing is when my anxiety is bad I should be taking paxil but now I'm afraid to take it because it can cause ringing. Both ENT's said they think it could help

Oh I wouldn't worry about the Paxil and ringing in the ear since you never had it before (sorry for mentioning that earlier now I'm probably freaking you out hehe). Anxiety/depression can be causes of tinnitus so maybe it would actually help!

Someone I know had this issue too and it turned out to be Lyme Disease. Did you Dr test you for that?
I battled Lyme Disease for a year and a half but never had that as a symptom, I did belong to this support group , maybe you can do a search and see if other people had those symptoms. Support Group

I tested positive for Lyme Disease about 10 years ago when I was sick for over a month and noone could figure it out. I also tested positive for mono. I was given the full course of antibiotics for Lyme Disease although the infectious disease dr thought it was a false positive. The only way to know for sure was testing through a spinal tap and my mother would not let them do it.
I have not been checked recently. I live in Nassau now so I am not in the woods, dont go camping, or anything that would subject me to it.
Next time I see my dr I'll mention it.
