I've stopped BF'ing & my breasts are ENGORGED and HURT like a MO FO
OMG I hardly slept last night!! I put ice packs on them..and took Tylenol #4 and it didn't help. I literally feel like someone is stabbing me with little pieces of glass.
Does anyone know of anything else that will help to alleviate the pain????

Michelle- Call your OB- ask if they can give you a prescription to stop lactating. My mom recommended this to me, but my Dr said "Oh give it a couple weeks"

You need to make sure that you stop gradually! But you can try some Savoy Cabbage leaves in your bra, or take a warm shower...

My doctor said they took that pill off the market because a lot of women were getting bad side effects. I'm not sure how true that is..but I can't get it from him.
How about Cabbage leaves? I read something about that...does it work?

I second the Cabbage leaves. Also, wear a very tight bra...like a sports bra. It helps a little.

You should pump a little just to releave some pressure, but not to much cause your trying to dry up. You should feel better in a couple of days!

Check KellyMom or something like that

MOTRIN worked wonders for me last time. I was mourning a loss at the same time and had so many people hugging me. A wonderful friend gave me a box of Motrin with a bow on it and it was a lifesaver

pump just enough to relieve pressure, a warm shower will also do the trick. It takes a few days for the fulness to subside and quite a few months for them to be completely dried up.
Also, the prescription drug that they used to give women had the side effect of cysts and tumors!
Never tried cabbage but I've heard it works! Good luck!

The midwife in my Dr's office told me to take regular Sudafed- something in it helps dry up your supply. I was engorged and in pain, even after weaning, and the Sudafed REALLY helped!

It will, I had to do the same when Julia decided she didn't want to BF anymore at 11 months, just give it some time and you will feel better!

I pumped for about a week -- each day a bit less. That way DD was weaned slowly, as were my boobs.

Benadryl and Sudafed will decrease your milk supply.

i had to stop BF cold turkey and my doctor also told me no hot/warm showers/water on my breasts, cold will help u though, keep icing ur girls and wear a tight sports bra, it will go away in a couple days

Manually express a little to "take the edge off". That helped me with the pressure.

DO NOT go cold turkey. You could have a major infection.
Like some women suggested. Pump just enough to relieve but don't stop all together. You should be OK by a couple of weeks.

I put a tight sports bra...and that helped a lot. They stopped hurting after a week.

Not that I've experienced this myself, but I remember a co-worker wrapping her girls with an ace bandage and pumping a little less everyday...I remember her telling me how you're supposed to stop BF gradually and then wrap yourself tightly (or wear a really tight bra) to decrease the milk production...this does $uck though...hope you feel better soon!
