IVF Approval Question - SA Question

I called my office today to get the ball rolling in case I do not get a BFP.

I was told that DH needs two MORE semen analyses done that are two weeks apart in order to send to GHI for approval. Anyone else have to do this?? Poor DH = he has already done 4 Chat Icon

I set up two appts for him for 11/9 and 11/24, so I guess if I need it, I could start IVF then in December. I don't even want to wait that long, lol. But I am assuming I could go on BC in the meantime?? And then when approval comes in I can start stimming? Is that how it works?Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Also, I think I am going to spend the $300 to freeze his sample on the 24th, which can then be used for IVF. Is that a good or bad idea?

IVF Approval Question - SA Question

Maybe this is new. My DH did 2 but they were at 2 different facilities months apart and we were approved with no issues.

I dont know if I would recommend a frozen sample for IVF its better when its fresh. Some places will use frozen if for whatever reason your DH cannot produce or has issues.

If possible, I would definitely use fresh. We had no choice and had to use frozen.

It is highly recommended to have a frozen sample as backup for IVF. If he has a problem producing a sample that morning or his numbers are low, you want to have backup. Otherwise, you have to freeze your eggs that day. In the grand scheme of things, $300 is nothing!

Much like vegetables, fresh is better. That said, I'd go ahead and freeze his sample as a backup (better safe than sorry). The only certain thing about infertility is that nothing is certain and anything can happen.

DH had testicular cancer in 2003-2004 and now has azoospermia. We had to use the sperm he banked in 2004.

Re: IVF Approval Question - SA Question

With GHI, they needed that for my IVF approval. Both RE's that submitted for it used two SA's that he did back in Feb.. He did 2 consec back then because his first came back abnormal. Second turned out to be abnormal too so the RE just saved them and when I was ready to submit for IVF (last month), they did and it got approved based on his SA alone.
