IVF Grant - Question
Hi Girls,
We just went back to our RE after a year break (we ran out of IF coverage) and our plan was to pay out of pocket for an IUI buuuut our RE mentioned the grant and seemed real positive about our qualifying. We have exhausted our insurance and we have about 7 failed IUI's.......three ended in miscarriage.
So I wondering if anyone here has gotten the grant and if so, how much time was there between filing the paperwork to starting the IVF cycle? Also, if u don't mind sharing.........how much of ur IVF cycle was covered thru the grant? Thx so much for the info.

The pprwork says the NYS Infertility Demonstration Program for IVF. That is all I know right now. My RE is Dr San Roman at RSOFNY.

I'm not sure if that is the same one. I went to ECF but I do know that other RE's offered the DOH grant.
Anyway in case if is the same here is some info. The whole process from start of paperwork to start of IVF cycle was about a month if I remember correctly. As far as what we had to pay out of pocket, it worked on a sliding scale. It was a percent of your income. We wound up having to pay about 4 $4000. Part of that was for the "operating room". The room where they did the retrieval. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

Thx!! He mentioned it would cost us anywhere from a few hundred to maybe $1-2K although nothing is set in stone. If it is all based on a sliding scale I cannot imagine it would be so little but I guess we will know more this week after speaking with the grant coordinator.

Re: IVF Grant - Question
We received the grant which paid for 2 cycles....we paid $7,500....It is a percentage of your income (the more you make the more you pay)...
The money is only available thru March 2012
Patients’ insurance plan cannot provide coverage for IVF, but it can cover medications, blood work, or sonograms. Qualified patients will pay a cost share amount (their out-of-pocket expense) determined by NY state guidelines, based on total household income level, ranging from 2.5 percent of the total costs to 97.5 percent of the costs. Services eligible for the NY state program include: • Patient assessment (only one allowed per patient for the life of the grant) • IVF cycles (maximum of two complete cycles per patient for the life of the grant), including • Medications for ovulation induction • Monitoring of ovulation induction • All laboratory & sonography testing • Egg retrieval • Laboratory (in vitro) fertilization • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) as required • Embryo transfer
The NY state grant requires that some patients try intrauterine insemination (IUI) before moving to IVF. Some patients, though, will be waived through if the physician determines IVF is optimal and preferred. Patients who have very low likelihood of pregnancy with IVF are ineligible for the NY state grant. Examples of related conditions include:
• abnormal FSH level • history of 3 or more unsuccessful IVF cycles • several incomplete (canceled) cycles

Me too!!............at least that was what I was told by another RE earlier in the year. However, I went back to my RE (Dr. San Roman) last Thursday all set to pay out of pocket for an IUI when he informed us that the grant program was fully funded and up and running. He seemed very positive about our chances of getting into the grant and bypassing an IUI for an IVF cycle. I hope he is right!!! Just mailed back the paperwork back to RSOFNY today and hopefully the grant coordinator will return my call tomorrow so I will have a little more info. I'm excited about the possibility of doing the IVF but worse case scenario..........we get an IUI. Either way, at least we're trying again finally!!!

I hope it doesn't cost us that much! RE indicated it would be waaaay less than that but I guess we'll see. We're a little concerned about how much funding we will get because my DH has a pretty substantial income. Guess we'll know more soon!! Thx for the info.
