IVF process
My Dh's new insurance (which covers 2 IVF attempts) will start April 23rd. I am trying to figure out when I could possible start my IVF cycle.
Can you ladies provide me with information about the IVF process. How long does the whole process take from start to finish?
Thank you so much ladies.

Re: IVF process
You must check into your insurance. Some insurance companies won't let you do IVF right away until you have tried other methods under that particular insurance. Then if Those cycles fail then they will approve for that cycle. But sometimes They just want the testing done and then they approved. I guess what I am trying to say is. Call the insurance company and find out there infertility policy. My insurance wanted IUI's and other testing done prior to my IVF cycle!

Re: IVF process
For me, the whole ivf process took 28 days. I was on the pills for 10 days. I was then on the injections for 10 days before my retrieval and then the transfer was 3 days after that. Talk to your insurance company re: coverage.

Re: IVF process
I went to my RE about 2 months before my insurance started covering IVF. I went in for my HSG and SHG. I got AF on 1/31, started Lupron on 2/3...stims on 2/16 and ER was 2/28. ET was 3/5 (5dt) so all in all it was more or less a month. Good Luck!

Re: IVF process
You really need to see your RE at least a month before even beginning the process. They require blood tests at certain times during your cycle - and depending what the results are, may require more test before moving on to IVF. Also they may have their cycle "filled" for the month you want to go. SOme also require going to an injections class, and to see a therapist, all of which takes time....

Re: IVF process
I agree with Kara...I started going to my RE in November and after all testing was done, started my first cycle in January.

Re: IVF process
Thanks for the information ladies. I have a consult appt with my RE on March 27th (one month before DH's insurance will be in effect). So hopefully he will start to do whatever testing needs to be done.

Re: IVF process
Certain tests like the HSG and the SHG need to be done at specific times in your cycle. Just an FYI

Re: IVF process
Jacqui - Thank you for this info. Actually, I have had alot of test done already...including an HSG and bloodwork. So, I am hoping that there wouldn't be much more left to do before we could move on to IVF.
