IVF timing question
I'm putting a call into the IVF nurse today, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway.
Next month I'm doing IVF. I don't think I"m going to post much about it, because I'm really, really terrified, and I just need to lay low and not make a big deal out of it, so please understand why I've been a little MIA lately
So here's my question. We had talked about doing my next cycle for the IVF, for October.
I got my last period on Sunday, Sept. 7. I just ovulated this past weekend, which means I'm likely to get AF Saturday, October 4.
But, I'm travelling to Italy/Israel from Sept. 25 through Oct. 10..
I was planning on starting BCP, as part of the IVF cycle, while I'm in Israel, which the IVF nurse suggested.
Is that cutting it too close though? That means I'll be on BCP for 7 days before I can get home for my 1st appointment, and for stimming.
I'm doing BCP and then Lupron.
In your experience, how long were you on BCP for, before starting the Lupron?
I know I'm rambling a bit - my mind is going 50 millions different directions at once between my DD's bday, our upcoming trip and embarking on IVF

Re: IVF timing question
Well I would think it would be fine to start the BCP's while you are away. Since they downregulate your system, this will give the RE flexibility as to when they want to start with everything else. I wasn't on Lupron so I really don't know when you would start that. For me, once I was clear to start stims (I had to stay on BCP's until a cyst went away) I just stopped taking the BCP's and got AF and that's when all the monitoring really started.

Off the subject, but my due date with DD was 9/25 too

Re: IVF timing question
I think that you might have a problem in that you generally have to go in on CD3 for bloodwork before starting anything. Wether it's Lupron on BCP, they generally do a CD3 test first and then put you on the meds. I would call your IVF nurse and ask her about that first and foremost. You may have to wait until November to cycle if you are going to be away that week.
I could be wrong, but that has always been my RE's protocol.

This is what I fear, though when I had my IVF consult, she was the one who suggested I start the BCP while I'm in Israel so we can move forward with the IVF in October, so I'm a bit confused.
I guess I'll just have to wait to talk to her about it today.
Thanks

Re: IVF timing question
My first IVF was a little different, because I had to take over a month off before starting. But I don't ovulate on my own, so I was really on BCPs for a good 8 weeks before starting Lupron.
My 2nd IVF, I want to say that I was on BCPs for about 10 days before starting Lupron, and then stopped the BCPs 5 days after starting Lupron. So, it sounds to me like you are on the right track!
Have a great time in Israel!!! (I'm soooooo jealous!)

I agree with this. I don't think they will let you start BCP unless you have CD3 blood work because one of the tests on CD3 is a pregnancy test and they don't want to risk putting you on meds unless they are sure you are not PG. I was on BCP for 20 days to answer you other question.

Same here for me (your IVF #1) I had to take a month off so I was on BC pills for about 6 weeks, started Lupron for about a week before I stopped BC pills (while still taking Lupron) and got AF. Started stimming 8 days after AF. As long as you are on BC pills they can control your cycle and basically can deal with anything that arises.
Wow have a great time in Israel & Italy!!!
BTW: I am in the middle of my 1st IVF cycle and have been a little apprehensive to post about the experience. I completely understand how you feel!
