Re: Ivy League in Smithtown
I was a counselor at the camp for several years.
The school is very small.

Re: Ivy League in Smithtown
I sent both my kids there for pre K program. From a parents perspective, I thought it was a great school. I didn't send them beyond that b/c we live in a good SD and Ivy League was very $$. I also sent my daughter to summer camp and she loved it. Good Luck!

My neighbor's kids went there for preschool through kindergarten. It is very expensive to attend.
Her kids now go to the local public school which is a great district.

Re: Ivy League in Smithtown
I interviewed there 2 summers ago. They wanted me to teach science in 5th & 6th grade. I thought I was interveiwing for a primary teaching position. I remember the interview with the headmaster being long with lots of random questions. I remember just wanting to leave & giving short answers yet they called me back for a demo lesson the next day. I turned them down, I didn't feel it was a good fit for me.

Re: Ivy League in Smithtown
My friend sent her children there for K because her district didn't have full day K. She absolutely loved it, but it was too expensive to keep her kids there. She had such nice things to say about it. Good luck!

I interviewed there last summer and had a similar experience. Went for the interview thinking it was for one position, then they told me it was another. Then the headmaster kept asking me weird personal questions, like about my marraige, if we owned a home, ect. It was actually probably illegal. I never got a call back though, and I thought I answered pretty well. Seemed like a very fancy school. Let us know how it goes!

You're right! I forgot about that. She asked me when I was planning on having kids. Thats about the time I checked out of the interview. Inappropriate! Don't be nervous, at least you know what to expect. Maybe your experience will be different. Let us know how it goes, good luck!

Re: Ivy League in Smithtown
I thought it went well. I was there for a while and met with another person. It was only for p/t but if there is room in the school my kids can go for free which is a plus. We shall see what happens.
I feel like I have 3 options possibly right now
1) Perm Sub 2) This p/t position 3) Career Change and I have an HR interview in the city on Tuesday.

Glad it went well! I was a perm sub this year & I really liked it. Schools usually hire their perm subs to do the maternity leaves. Good Luck!

Re: Ivy League in Smithtown
The school had an excellent reputation (at least, the parents that I know that sent children there seemed to love it). I worked for the camp for a summer and really enjoyed it.
Good luck with your interview! Even a p/t position is a foot in the door!
