jewish mom question
hey guys, hope you don't mind me popping in from the pg board.
my question is what, if anything, does the baby's godmother and godfather do at a bris (spell?) are there any godparent duties?
also what does the baby usually wear at the bris?
thanks!!!

Re: jewish mom question
I thought jewish people don't have godparents??? We are conservative and I don't think there are... The mohel never brought that up to us at the bris at all-- We ust had are parents do things during the bris...

Re: jewish mom question
Bris' do have Godparents usually. At the ceremonies the Rabbi usually passes the baby between the two Godparents. Dont think they need to prepare anything formal. The idea is the same as any other godparens i would think. I am actually having a baby naming for dd this weekend and Ive chosen godparents for dd. I guess I can do this bc its a reform temple.

Re: jewish mom question
Our mohel didn't actually call them godparents. He called up my sister, her hubby and DH's brother. They each held the baby as a part of the ceremony. Godparents are not a religious thing, more a traditional thing. Does that make sense? Definitely check with your mohel though. Each one will do it a little differently. Oh, our mohel was conservative (almost bordering on orthodox)
If you need a recommendation, FM me. I can recommend 2
