Job help needed (Long)
I am posting under an anonymous name because I have co-workers who may lurk. I just landed a new job not too long ago, and it was considered a good move for me in my industry. The problem is, I hate the job. The company is OK, but my division is a mess. They do not follow protocol, and they basically lied to me about what my day-to-day function would be. It turns out that even though I have gotten a promotion from my old job, I am doing the job that my assistant used to do for me. It is very clerical in nature, and very mundane. There is a lot of heavy phone work, which is not what I want at all.
I have been made aware of a job opportunity in a field that I have considered for a long time, and although I have not worked in that field I have indirect experience that may help me get a foot in the door. The salary is about the same, as is the commute and the hours. The benefits are the same as well. I am a bit hesitant though, as this would not be my first career change. I am afraid that it might look badly that I only stayed in my current career for only 3 years, even though that is what I went to school for. I also am interested in pursuing a Master's, but my current hours require overtime at certain times of the year, which happens to be around Finals week.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would go for the new job!! Everyone switches careers - don't worry about that! It is also very rare that someone stays in the career (or is ever in the career) that they went to school for. If those are your worries, but otherwise this other job sounds great to you, then go for it!

I would definitely try the new job/career!! You'll never know unless you try it out and at least the benefits, salary, and commute stays the same! Go for it and good luck!

I would go for the new job as well - especially if you're not happy. You may love it, but even if you want to make a jump back to your old line of work, you'll have a new set of skills from the new job.
Good luck!

I would def. make the move to the new position or job especially because you are so unhappy with your current position. I don't think your move will be a bad refelction on you. Good luck!!!!

New Job!!
I've had about 25 career changes since I graduated college in 1988. Learned something every time...and mostly the changes have been for the better. It's how I got where I am now, which I am very happy with.

Re: Job help needed (Long)
You can't worry about how it will look on your resume down the road. Maybe this job, will make you switch careers for good and that will never come up.
Go for it if you think it will make you happy. In this life, you have to try. Take the risk and good luck!

Definately switch! You spend way too much time at work to be unhappy!
