job interview -- are they playing games, opinions please?
i applied for a job and thought i had a pretty good chance of getting it. Now I'm not so sure and I'm confused. I was told they want to fill the position immediately but it seems they're dragging their feet.
So far I've had two interviews, two in person interviews (the in-person was with the same person) and a writing test. I was told I have the best experience of the candidates, my writing was the strongest, she's impressed with my follow thru, blah blah. But then she told the hr person that I was 'so so,' which is why I had another interview (today.)
I don't know what to think anymore. She went into the whole ' great experience, etc.' thing and then said "if we decide to proceed, i'd like you to fly out to our corporate headquarters in seattle to meet the executive vice presdient. We'll touch base next week."
DH thinks she is stringing me along and thinks I should say 'thanks but no thanks.' He thinks she's playing games. What do you think?
FYI - some background: I was unexpectedly laid off. I landed a new job quickly (I was lucky) and though I'm happy here, it's not my first choice. I'm not actively searching elsewhere, just finishing up what I started. Where I am now is the first place that made an offer so I grabbed it. I think I'd like the place I interviewed at today better.

I would think that any reputable business doesn't have the time for 'playing games'.
There's probably a reason for whatever it is that they're doing.

I think you should see it through, you can always decide not to accept if they do make an offer if you're still put off by the whole process. Would you be working directly for this person?

That's what I was wondering?
What makes you think they are playing games besides that comment? Have they followed up when they said they would? I think you shoudl proceed if you think this is the job for you.
I'll also tell ya what playing games is.....HR saying they will call you on a certain day and then vanishing into thin air and not replying to your calls or emails!

The HR person told me. I know she's rooting for me -- she was literally coaching me on the phone the other day for today's meeting.
Follow-up....the HR person responds to my emails most of the time, but there was never a set 'I'll be in touch next week' sort of thing until this morning.
I think that if a company likes you, they like you and if they don't, they don't. That's why I think this woman is playing games -- to me, she says everything that leads me to believe she likes me but then she says otherwise to the HR person.

Do you know the HR person personally? Why would she even say that to you? That doesn't make sense at all. Maybe they have their lines crossed and they each think they're talking about someone else?

I think the HR person told me because she wants me to land the job. When I told her I had accepted another offer but was still interested in pursuing this company she said "I'm not surprised. I told the hiring manager to snatch you up because someone would grab you fast."
