We have just received the following communication from the NYC DOE:

"We are pleased to share that schools may be able to receive an exception to hire external teachers in English, mathematics and social studies to fill vacancies they have for the 2011-12 school year. In order to meet the school hiring needs with a quality pool of teacher candidates, the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality has extended the deadline for the online teacher application for teacher candidates in the above subject areas through Monday, August 8."
